1958 Bell Brand Dodger's Set
2 Attachment(s)
I just picked up my first card from this Dodgers set and think it's a pretty cool card. I'm sure there are other collectors of this set, so please show us some pictures. It is a pretty cool set. This is a 1958 set and Roy began his playing career in 1948 - he already had been League MVP 3 times by the time this set was issued - crazy!

Awesome set, pretty tough too. I'm 8/10. Need SPs Cimoli and Podres. Actually have a beater Cimoli but looking for an upgrade. I've got a raw VG or VG/EX Gilliam I could trade if anybody is interested.
(Man I hate how these things move around in their holders. Looks like PSA could figure something out to stop that. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...fdcf7e58_w.jpghttps://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...672c2f15_w.jpghttps://live.staticflickr.com/969/42...7b8f42c8_w.jpghttps://live.staticflickr.com/958/41...79fa5f29_w.jpghttps://live.staticflickr.com/966/41...7a42a080_w.jpghttps://live.staticflickr.com/943/42...934d3430_w.jpghttps://live.staticflickr.com/953/40...74ab3e9e_w.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/1872/4...8a7d9774_w.jpg |
Thanks! Cool cards. I didn't realize they moved around so much - you're right - that should be addressed. It's a nice small set that still available, except for the higher quality short prints.
Thanks for posting. |
It is crazy. Only racism and injuries kept him from being one of the absolute all time greats. He had some incredible years. This is actually one of only a couple of Campy's I don't own. great purchase.

I always loved this set. When I was a kid in the mid '70's there was a guy at the local Garden Grove show that had bricks of Zimmer and Gilliam.
Cimoli and Snider were considered much tougher then, now they seem to list Cimoli, Snider, Reese and Podres as the sp's. Still found Cimoli the toughest. I've got a couple of the point of purchase display posters, Giliam and Drysdale. I'll try and add them to this post. I"ve only seen 4 of these, each one a different player. Edit to add images- sorry, just quick cell shots. They are approximately 24x36, on a thin wax paper type stock, and super fragile. |
Cimoli was the first one I ever got. I was 12 and got another kid to throw it into a trade. I knew it was rare; he did not. I sold it at a local card show for the princely sum of $25. Righteous bucks in 1978.
I was quite the little predator... |
Those posters look like my old ones
4 different..only..never saw the other 4 |
Larry, I got them from a guy in Malibu on ebay about 12 years ago. Were these originally yours? Think your brother had a couple too.

Ok...we got em from the guy in Malibu also
I think zimmer and hodges were my others |
I never knew the displays even existed. Thanks for sharing. I've learned a lot already from this thread. The regional issue sets interest me. I would think with their size difference with other standard issue versions they would be subject to storage risks. Hence, just like with any cards not 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 they seemed to get damaged more. That would make them harder to find in higher grades for sure. Thoughts?

I’d agree with you if there weren’t stacks of undistributed ones in the 70’s still around. That put a lot of high grade ones out there. I put together a set of 8’s about 10 years ago fairly quickly and the pops are even higher now.

Gilliam Hodges Reese Mine were pretty beat up when I found them on ebay, so I had them professorially linen backed. I didn't want to restore them, just wanted to stop the mold from eating them. |
Love the posters! Scott

Good stuff, thanks for sharing everyone! As a Dodgers collector I never dreamed I'd own this team set and now I'm only a couple cards away from owning both a mid-grade slabbed team set and a low grade raw team set! I can only dream to own a window poster one day.
Here's my contribution to the thread. I don't own this but a friend of mine does and I envy his ownership! |
