Another T206 Wagner Up for auction

I just got an email from Goldin auctions and it previews there upcoming auction

And item 1 is a T206 Honus Wagner PSA 1.5.

Minimum bid is $1,000,000

Amazing pre 2020 they rarely came up for auction since it seems like every couple of months another one comes up.

As always I will be interested to see where the hammer lands and will be interested to see what type of media coverage it gets.

If your one of the bidders good luck

If not enjoy the show

I imagine that for someone who bought a Wagner years ago, the surge in prices might make it potentially life-altering money if the card is sold. I'd certainly sell a card that could retire me on the spot, if I had one.

I'm thinking the consigner is probably well off financially, if not very wealthy and the money probably isn't going to change their life much.

It’s not a rare card so at these price levels it shouldn’t surprise anyone when they come to market.

It's the same one that sold in Heritage last spring for 2.28 million.

PSA 1.5 seems generous...

mrreality68 09-15-2022 03:09 PM

Did not realize it was the same one. Maybe I should have.

It went for 2.28 million dollars so it will be interesting to see what it goes for now.

Which would you rather have, the PSA 1 or the PSA 1.5

Fair point. I guess I better get ready to bid on this one.

Very.

campyfan39 09-15-2022 08:30 PM

the 1.5 is much better eye appeal IMO

I think the question really boils down to where do you draw the line between a 1.0 and a 1.5. Are they both 1.0, but one is a little less beat up than the other one?

Does it matter that they’re over 100 years old so they should be graded on a different scale than modern cards? I’m pretty sure the answer is yes.

And maybe that’s the difference. I’m used to eagle-eyed posters around here being quick to point out all of the deficits on any given card that it’s easy to forget that for these cards, we can afford to be a little more forgiving.

I'll go out on a limb and bet the under. My guess is 1.75 sans BP.

I don’t see a whole lot of meat on this bone!

Welp!

At $1.9M before the juice already…

Care to revise your original estimate? Do I hear $3M??!!!!

mrreality68 09-16-2022 05:25 PM

Wow considering it is at $2million before BP looks like $3 million or more.

These cards never stop amazing

Nope, that’s why I’m a collector and not a speculator, I wouldn’t do well trying to make money in this business.

I like the 1 overall better. The 1.5 has sharper colors but the back is a lot cleaner on the 1.

I would be happy to own either (dreaming) but would pick the 1

Wow the card sold last year at $2.28 million with BP. Now with time to go it is at $2.5 million ($3 million with BP).

Never would have thought it would be $3 million

My mistake for thinking it would go up that much in such a short time especially after the dramatic jump in prices these cards already had in a short period of time
