Jeter's new card venture

Saw this today (sorry if someone else has already posted)...

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...ess-arena-club

My first reaction was...oh no, not another one. You don't even need to mail your cards anymore, they conveniently store them for you (vault concept).

There was an interesting comment about grading though...
" Lee said the company wants to add speed and transparency to the system with a new process that uses computer vision and machine learning."

Introducing objectivity and reproducibility into grading...now that would be impressive and valuable I think.

Oh gee just what the industry needs is not only another vault but another grading company and one that will use AI.

“Building a community, that’s our No. 1 goal here.”

Mhm. Right.

IT will not be easy with a competitive field and many big player with Reps in the crowded field.

But I am sure his venture will find their niche. And using Jeter and others names does not hurt.

IT will be interesting to watch. The concept is good but is the technology there and will people accept it

One more place to buy and sell Lukas I guess.

What I did not see in the laundry list of names was anyone with actual experience heading up a grading business.

Hard pass.

They should skip the card grading and just make their own cards where all are produced at Gem Mint levels, you get your cards in a holder.

More specifically, i question what reasoning a true ML process would generate for a grade, since true AI is based on experiential learning…so if you ask why a certain grade, they will respond, “the computer said it’s an 8.5!”? Will not be very helpful.
