Willie Mays original film reels from 1967
3 Attachment(s)
Hello. Haven't been on the Forum for awhile but found something at an estate sale recently that I wanted to ask about. I bought a large stack of old film reels and among them are two reels from a 1963 documentary (directed by Lee Mendelson, of "Peanuts" specials fame) on Willie Mays called "A Man Named Mays." Kinda cool, but i have no clue on value. I'd guess there's not a huge market for them, but wondering if anyone has ever bought this sort of thing or collects old films. Any idea if if it's worth anything? Have other baseball film reels sold? I couldn't find many comps. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Rob
Here's the link to the film on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YgRLuvfblg Attachment 533527 Attachment 533528 Attachment 533529 |
And that should be 1963, not 67. I don't see the edit button. Thanks.

I am constantly amazed at the depth of films that Doak has. simply an awesome collection.

Don't want to bring any drama to this thread but selling a public broadcast that was free to view in the 50s/60s on public television for $30 on a DVD is...
Eh I just don't like paywalls on history. I understand Doak transfers them with great quality and whatnot it's just something that doesn't sit right and never has for me. Anybody know why he doesn't upload them to YouTube and put ads on them? |
The people who would be the most interested in it would also probably be much more interested in a dvd over Youtube.
I collect films- sort of- and have a friend who is really into films. In that hobby, movies do much better than anything sports. Most of the sports ones I have he just gave to me for helping sort the other films. |
