SGC Update
I was alerted to this by one of my fellow COMC IDers
What a good improvement n terms of helping collectors and all the TPG's should follow on this https://gosgc.com/authentic-Improvement Regards Rich |
Bravo!

Does "miscut" mean miscut by the factory, like an "MC" qualifier in PSA? If so, why is that "Authentic" rather than deserving of a number grade?
|
Of course SGC makes the change!
I was sold on SGC when I was building a T206 set, a T201 set, my Clemente collection....pleased to see service remains a priority. A breath of fresh air.
Kudos! |

It's frustrating they will no longer grade Authentic blank back T206s and some legit print errors/scraps.

Of the 4 examples shown in SGS's announcement, 3 make sense to me, but 1 doesn't. The sample flip that reads "AUTHENTIC ALTERED" doesn't do much for me because it doesn't tell me why the card is deemed altered. For some cards it's obvious, but for others it isn't.

How about Authentic Abused?

This information used to be included if you didn't go with slabbing as "A"
Here's an example https://www.net54baseball.com/pictur...pictureid=5054 https://www.net54baseball.com/pictur...pictureid=5053 Very rough cuts top and bottom, Not getting a nice grade bothered me at the time, because the cuts are factory, just rough because of a dull blade. Looking back, and at how many people see every deviation from normal as evidence of alteration, I can see why they wouldn't want it in a slab with a number grade from a company image perspective. Still not happy a long time later but I understand. Altered is vague, but some altering may take more than a word or two to explain, so with the slab/flip system it will have to do. I tried briefly to design a slab that could hold both a flip and a certificate with a longer explanation like you get for stamps. Nothing that was workable was at all pleasing visually and most were bulky as well. |
