Ebay help needed

I Hope someone can help. I sold an item on ebay and as of today the item has not arrived and the tracking says in transit with an estimated delivery date of 08/14/22. Today is 08/25/22. This is an item under $20.00 so ebay standard envelope was used for shipping which includes insurance. The customer did file an item not received as they should.

I went to the Post Office and they said the tracking number provided was not their tracking number. How can that be? Is this envelope insured by the Post Office or does ebay self insure those items with the standard envelope?

What happens if the envelope is received after I send a refund and the customer refuses to reimburse me? They would have the card and the refund.

This is the first time this has happened and any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

If it is the Ebay number (ESUSxxxxxx) the post office does not track it in their system. Somehow Ebay does but don't ask me how.

I am waiting on a card now that I purchased on the 31st of July and still have not received it.

I have had the Ebay tracked number take up to a month to show up from purchase to delivery. Even though the estimated received date was much sooner than it was received.

There are time that Ebay's tracking system get mucked up. None of this really helps you in the grand scheme. Just my experiences with it and them.

OK Thanks. But who do I put the claim against? The Postal Service or ebay?
Thanks,
Bob

It can’t be the postal service. To them it was just a 1st class piece of mail. Unless you insured it through them, you don’t have a recourse through them. They have nothing to track it through their system.

I am reasonably sure it has to go to EBay for any course of actions.

OK Thanks. Now to try and find how to get a refund through them. They make it easy for you to give them money but hard when you need to get reimbursed.
Thanks,
Bob

It was likely delivered but not scanned. It is tracked through the USPS but primarily only when received and when delivered. Unfortunately, they often fail to scan it as delivered. I have had many that never showed delivered but I never had a buyer claim they did not receive it. Clearly, they are receiving them whether scanned as delivered or not. Is your buyer claiming they did not get the item or are you just assuming based on the tracking that they did not receive it? If they checked the tracking # and saw it did not show delivered, they can always claim they never got it even if they did if they are a crook. So far I have not had any crooks and probably 40 items never showed delivered but not one claim of not receiving item.

If you go to seller help in Ebay and chat with an agent, they can help you. Typically because you have done everything right--went through their shipping and have that tracking, they will not make you provide a refund, but the buyer can open a case with them and often eBay will provide a refund to the buyer--but that ends up being between the buyer and Ebay. I would just have the order # and the tracking number and do the online chat. This has happened a few times and I have never had to personally refund the person.
