Maybe the Greatest T206 Set Extant
Sonny T, who is a member here and a good friend, has assembled perhaps one the greatest T206 sets ever assembled. Not only is the set complete (520 + Magie), but it contains the most amazing assortment of backs, including no-prints, blank backs, proofs, type 1 coupons, etc., and some of the rarest/toughest front-back combos.
This set deserves its own thread, yet despite my pushing him, Sonny, who is reserved and humble, has not created one. So I am doing it for him, because this absolutely incredible, amazing, and unique set deserves its own thread. Come on in for Drums, Uzits, amazing eye appeal, more Broadleafs than you have ever seen in one place, etc. I present, Sonny’ incredible t206 set. Perhaps he will respond with his/the story https://www.flickr.com/gp/146321797@N05/Pu037e41t3 |
One of the most impressive collections I've ever seen. And the condition on them all!! Greatly appreciate you sharing.

Ryan thanks so much for posting Sonnys set. I thoroughly enjoyed scanning through his incredible cards.
How fitting is it that his cover page to his card gallery states "my attempt at an epic set". Id say that he accomplished that and then some. Whats so special about Sonnys set is that each card is unique in its own way and not just about the number printed on the flip. Its by far one of the most amazing array of T206's I've seen as a group, EVER!! Kudos to you for sharing these......... Thank you! |
Really nice of you to post this Ryan, as you stated Sonny is very humble and one of the nicest guy's in the hobby. What's almost as amazing as his set is the fact that he has/had a lot of incredible cards that aren't even included in this set.

Wow!
Wow!

I'm only through page 3 and have lost count on the number of Red Hindu's, Uzit's and Drums....simply an astounding collection. What an accomplishment and thank you for sharing the pictures. Just....wow....

This is the nicest collection that I have ever seen. Thanks so much for posting!!

Wow and Wow
The set is impressive. Any idea how long it took for Sonny to accomplish this feat? any idea if he has any interesting stories behind getting any or some of these cards? Would love to here the story behind the cards and about Sonny. |
WOW. Absolutely amazing.
|
Incredibly cool collection.
|
Great looking T206s. You can tell they are hand picked for quality.
The only exception, concerning categorization, is there is a Coupon T213 in there :).... . . |
Pure (T206) eye candy - Thanks for sharing
|
Great idea Ryan.
Sonny, as we've told you publicly, and privately, this is an incredibly epic accomplishment. Congrats! |
Sonny... I consider you a close friend in the Hobby. Happy to have your cards where they belong shining among the collectors.
|
Just an incredible accomplishment to put together such a set!
Thanks Sonny for sharing the scans with us and thanks Ryan for giving the set its own thread which it rightly deserves. |
Awesome accomplishment!
That is an incredible array of cards. The eye appeal is outstanding.
|
Don't know what to say after seeing this.....just incredible......drool.....

Thank you everyone. Ryan is a great friend, and I appreciate his support on my project immensely. He even traded or sold me a few of the cards I needed. Talk about needing it’s own thread...his museum collection needs its own website. Click his Flickr link if you haven’t already.
I have collected vintage cards off and on ever since the internet (eBay) made it easy, but I have never built a set of cards in my life...commons have just have never appealed to me. But being from MS, I was always intrigued by the SL Hindu subset. The teams were mostly familiar to me, and I felt like they were special because of the back. That’s the beauty of t206....mix in a print flaw or an uncommon back and every card can be special (even the commons!!!). So one day I decided to sell my collection of random cards ranging from N172 to 80’s stuff I collected as a kid. Brian Dwyer at REA helped me do that (he’s amazing as you all know). I kept the 40ish t206 that I already had and started building a 520 set...my goal was 520 where nothing was ‘common’. My first purchase was a PSA 3 Harry McIntyre Hindu off eBay April 22, 2019. The seller (Mike Holm) contacted me to give me a history of the card and we have been friends ever since...he has been my biggest supporter and best hobby friend. I have made SOOOO many amazing friends along the way, and that has been the best part of the 3.5 year journey. I’m so glad that I chose this path. I’m missing a few cards and many of those shown are place holders until something ‘special’ comes along. I genuinely don’t think i will ever consider it complete. I truly appreciate all of the kind comments. |

Congrats again |
I truly do not know how to respond here. The typical, awesome, wow, amazing responses just do not seem appropriate. So, I'll just leave it at the stunned silence I experienced paging through your set? LOL! :)

That Gibson ghost back image is an awesome card! The whole collection is of course amazing and inspiring, but the Gibson just really caught my eye.

Wow. I am truly in awe!

Amazing accomplishment Sonny, the sheer volume of incredible cards is overwhelming.
Here's my Sonny story: I was working on a trade for an H-card and the member wanted an Uzit back, now I think y'all T206 guys are certifiable and I'm an ecard guy so I reached out to Ryan asking about Uzit availability and he hooked me up with Sonny, within minutes Sonny texted me with two available choices. The trade didn't work out but the takeaway for me was how generous members are on this sub are with regard to helping each other out. I've said it before, but this is an amazing place. Oh, and I did end up getting the H-card from the member through his generosity. Ryan, thanks for posting. |
"I’m missing a few cards and many of those shown are place holders until something ‘special’ comes along. I genuinely don’t think i will ever consider it complete."
Sonny, this sentence is the really beautiful thing about collecting T206 cards...it's never done, it's never over...it's a lifelong journey. As others above had said, really glad to call you a friend. |
................ Oh that Tolstoi Cross ................... :eek::eek::eek:
I have dealt with Sonny a few times, and have to reiterate what has been said many times here ..... humble. Doesn't matter if it's a $25 card or a $2500 card, all the same .... just a great and FUN experience !!! What a set !!! Scott |
Truly fantastic. Well done, Sonny!
|
Oh.. i love that Brown Hooker!
|
Wait, did you mean a complete set minus the Wagner and Plank? Is that just assumed in the T206 collecting world?
|
Wow spectacular collection! Great work Sonny!

That's really wild! Question for the hobby historians here: when did collectors start paying serious attention to the different backs, or have they always? Are the real early guys, the Barkers, Brays, Burdicks, etc., concerned at all with backs in their correspondence and collecting? If not, who kicked it off and when did it pick up real steam?
|
As a primarily T206 collector and someone who is attempting a 520 (518 or 19 in all likelihood) off back set (with MUCH less breadth) this is HANDS DOWN the most incredible thing I have seen in the bobby.
Thank you for sharing! Scott |
Totally enjoyed looking at your collection, the Red Cobb Black Lenox is a masterpiece.
|
Proud to see Sonny's purchase from me included in the set. I had no idea that he was putting such a set together.
|
Hi Ryan, and fellow Net54er's.
This thread is a great tribute to a really great guy. Sonny not only collects T206's....his intellectual curiosity regarding these little "gems" is fantastic. TED Z T206 Reference . |
By far my favourite collection, watching you meticulously choose each card, slowly building it over the last few years has been a true joy. You're one of the best in the hobby and glad to have you as a friend.

Incredible. So much fun to peruse.
|
Thank you sonny
|
It's decent.
: ) |
Seriously though, just amazing!
Makes me wonder what the heck I'm I even trying to accomplish. |
I really like the Emil Batch upside down back. Go rochester!
|
What a fantastic collection. The Broadleafs are incredible. I think I counted 6 of the 460’s!!
|
Ryan, thank you for starting this well deserved thread.
The first time I met Sonny here on the forum he shared his flicker album with me and my jaw literally dropped as I ran through page after page of rarities! What's more, as many have already said Sonny is as nice a guy as you'll ever meet and a class act in every respect. Sonny congratulations on your accomplishment and all the best as you continue on your T206 quest! |
Sonny,
To echo all of the preceding compliments, very nice, very well done! Congratulations on such an outstanding set, and thanks for sharing such nice, clean scans for everyone to admire. Cheers, Steve |
Gobsmacked... Sonny, all the words everyone else has said, outstanding. It's like you hate Piedmont, Sweet Caporal, and raggedy white border cards.
There should be some kind of rule or law about having that many Broadleaf cards and Red Hindu cards. Approaching what you've accomplished leaves the rest of us an example of something for which we should aspire. |
T206 Sonny
Wow, Sonny! That's an awesome collection!! Congrats!
