1952 Cleveland Indians Picture Pack

3 Attachment(s)
Hello. I saw your post a few days ago, but only just now found the same version Feller in my collection. It looks like it comes from a 1952 Cleveland Indians Picture Pack. I would call this an alternate or competing version of Picture Pack, as it is not the same as the official version put out by the team for the same year.

I am tempted to say it was produced by the Big League Novelty Company, similar to previous years, but they stopped labeling them as such on the envelope after the 1949 season, so not positive. The 1952 envelope shown here is identical to the 1951 version envelope for these alternate / competing Picture Packs, except for the date. I can confirm that the Feller shown in your post and mine is in the 1952 pack but not in the 1951 pack - he has a different pose in 1951. The other big difference between these years is in the font, which could be described as "wide pen" in 1951 and "fine pen" in 1952.

It's entirely possible this version Feller extended into 1953 or later for these alternate / competing Picture Packs, but I don't have anything later to compare. Honestly, not sure this producer made them past 1952, whereas the official version Picture Packs extended into the early 1960s at least.

This 1952 Cleveland Indians Picture Pack includes 25 players + envelope:
  • Roberto Avila
  • Johnny Berardino
  • Ray Boone
  • Lou Brissie
  • Merrill Combs
  • Larry Doby
  • Luke Easter
  • Bob Feller
  • Jim Fridley
  • Mike Garcia
  • Steve Gromek
  • Mickey Harris
  • Jim Hegan
  • Sam Jones
  • Bob Lemon
  • Barney McCoskey
  • Dale Mitchell
  • Pete Reiser
  • Al Rosen
  • Dick Rozek
  • Harry Simpson
  • Birdie Tebbets
  • Joe Tipton
  • Early Wynn
  • Al Lopez MGR

My envelope is in terrible condition but the contents were somehow protected to be EX or better. I have encountered this version less frequently than the official version, but do plan to upgrade the envelope if the opportunity presents.

Well done!
Picture packs can be a less expensive way to collect vintage pictures, which are almost like cards.
