Most of us here collected baseball cards with great enthusiasm when we were kids — and played some version of youth baseball at the same time when we were opening our first wax or cello packs. I recently came across this photo of myself at 13 playing for the "Reds." It was taken in 1974, and it's curious to me that the logo on the cap was last used by the Reds in 1953, and the logo on the jersey is patterned after the one on the 1956 Reds road jersey. I recall going to sporting goods stores back then, and they carried tons of old patches like these — there were drawers filled with them. As a result, many of the local youth teams used outdated patches. I also recall going to my first card show that year in Anaheim, CA.

Let's see your youth baseball photos ...

this was the only little league-era picture i could find…

i’m the kid in the green hat and sleeves…proud member of the 1983 Blountville Little League champion Red Sox!

my best friend’s dad (my little league coach) snapped this pic at Yaz’s last spring training game…i still have this autographed ball as well as the one i got by walking on top of the dugout and leaning over into the almost expanse…empty except for one player…Yaz. no security, no hassle….great memories

then got this pic signed a couple years ago

Here is a picture of my first little league team, the Elks Braves circa 1966 from Dunellen, NJ.

I am holding the front of the Elks sign. I still can name 8 of the players.

Opening Day ceremonies from either 1976 or 1977 of the Greenwood Elementary baseball league. Earl Wilson was the guest of honor. We had 6 complete baseball teams of 4th-6th graders from just one elementary school. EVERYONE played baseball in the summer. There weren't any "travel" leagues and, best of all, no soccer.

It's funny, (as a New Yorker) ever since I first heard "Jack & Diane" a hundred years ago with the line, "Suckin' on a chili dog, outside the Tastee Freez," I never had a frickin' clue what he was referring to.

Looks like the greenwood elementary school I used to ride my bike to with my friend to play baseball. (Football to) we’d ride our bikes from 12 and greater Mack to play ball with my cousin and his friends cause the greenwood area always had enough for 2 full teams. The outfield fence would have you drooling every time you stepped to the plate. Love the snow covered roofs and I sure miss the smell of the air of those early spring practices. You always knew when it was baseBall time. Jeff

I don't have any photos of myself from Little League, unfortunately - but have had a wonderful time coaching my son's teams for several years now. We just completed a run at the 10U level, to the MA state championship, where we lost a tough game.

This group of kids is super excited for what might come in the next couple of years - as they dream of competing on the bigger stage and making it to Williamsport as 12 year olds. Even though the numbers may be dwindling a bit, baseball definitely is still alive and going strong for many kids out there.

(I'm the taller coach in the back. My son is the one with the long hair, right in front of me.)

Great thread. Makes me wish I had access to my Little League and Babe Ruth League photos and memorabilia. Probably all buried 10 boxes deep in storage at my parents house somewhere.

Seems like every league has their own "glory days" coach who still prefers to suit up to coach their young kids' games.

Not exactly Little League but rather store bought baseball outfits for kids. The year is 1957, the location a GI Bill tract in the boonies of New Rochelle. From left to right are the Kates boys, me geeking out, my brother Dan striking a baseball card pose a la Christy Mathewson, and my sister Kini, unclear on the concept, indicating the extra point is good.

I really enjoyed my Little League years! So much fun! I played for the Patrick AFB L.L. since my dad was in the Air Force. Career highlights: x6 All-Star, Multiple HRs, unassisted triple play (while playing 3B) & couple championships :) I literally played all position minus 2B & SS lol

Lots of great memories, but especially the ones practicing & playing catch with my dad.

The Little League experience is awesome and unforgettable, and this time of year allows us all to reminisce on the fond memories its left us with. As much as I enjoyed playing ball as a kid, there is NOTHING like watching your own child play, enjoy, and succeed at baseball. That's how it was for me in 2018 coaching my son and his teammates/friends to the NJ Little League State Title (10 years olds) and going to the LL Regional Tournament in Rhode Island.

For those of you with kids still in the program, ENJOY EVERY SECOND OF IT!!
