19th Century Base Ball Card Team Lineup
3 Attachment(s)
I've decided to start something fun with my 19th Century cards since they are tough to come by. Instead of randomly collecting, I've been putting together a lineup consisting of a starting 9, 1 backup/utility player, and 3 pitchers (2 man main rotation).
I averaged out their stats (up until 1899 only in the case that they played past that) so I could see how the team would stack up. This group could have definitely won a pennant back in the day. The stats I've compiled are averaged out for a 162 game season, which I know wasn't the case back then, but it made it easier for me to figure out how they would perform and gave me a good consistent baseline. For Defense, I only compiled the stats for the position they are playing in my lineup and only up until 1899 if they did play after that. I've left off W-L for pitching since it doesn't make sense in this scenario since they would be on this entirely different, albeit hypothetical, team. Do any of you ever put together your Base Ball nine and see how they would perform? Jeremy |
Love this– I've done similar things with different sets. I did an Old Judge one but it needs updating...

The team is COMPLETE!
Not a bad Base Ball nine. Great utility player as my backup and the pitching is stellar. This team would win a pennant for sure. |

Great idea for some great cards -- and I believe that McCormick was mine not long ago :) Scott

Made a few lineup changes and added some pitchers (stats in first post adjusted).
New roster pic (yes, 3 Bennett's because he is awesome), all cropped out of the graded cases for better viewing pleasure. |
