Curious Coincidences - Where Who winds up statistically paired with forever:

Okay- I got bored.

The following pairs or groups are forever linked to one another via one of their final statistics.

I just thought it was interested how some players who had little or nothing in common would wind up paired in history.

I have listed a few that were also paired in more obvious ways, but that's not the topic of this excursion.

To be clear, the object is to figure out what link ties the pairs or groups to each other.

1) HOF Catchers Carlton Fisk & Mike Piazza along with HOFers Sunny Jim Bottomley and Wee Willie Keeler.

2) Dusty Baker and David Wright

3) Andruw Jones and Dale Murphy

4) Joe Mauer & Kirby Puckett

5) Joe Ferguson, Joe Girardi and George Mitterwald

6) Darren Daulton and Steve Yeager

7) Adrian Beltre, Gary Carter & Minnie Minoso

8) Eric Chavez and Miguel Tejada

9) Joe Morgan and Cap Anson

10) Darrell Evans and Scott Rolen

11) Joe DiMaggio and Tony Gwynn

12) Chipper Jones and Rob Deer

13) Jeff Francoeur, Tommy Harper & Ichiro Suzuki

4) Mauer and Puckett have an identical career OPS+ of 124. (In addition to both playing their whole careers with the Twins)

True, but that's not what I grouped them for.

#'s 3,5,6,8,10,12 & 13 finished with the same number of strikeouts

#'s 2,7 & 11 finished with the same number of bases on balls

#'s 1,4 & 9 finished with the same number of runs created.

Now- you have yet more usefull (?) information.

It's nice to see Willie Keeler included in the answers, for tying people he didn't know, in a category that didn't exist in his playing career, who are all members of members of an institution that didn't exist when he died in 1923. At least he was buried less than 200 miles from the future site of the Hall of Fame.

By the way is this a contest? If so, the members who stayed up all night looking for the answers are going to be disappointed that you have revealed the answers in less than 24 hours.

No, Frank - I never offered a prize...so, I guess I'll avoid mistreatment.

This was just a curiosity I stumbled upon...kind of like my first wife. (Now, THERE's some mistreatment!)
