Why is Ted Williams Salesman's sample not in the Master set?

So I'm a newbie with registered sets , maybe someone can answer this for me? Seems like the Master sets have everything that the player was ever printed on, matchbooks, postcards etc. I was looking to understand why the Ted Williams 1959 Fleer Salesman's Sample strip cards are not included in the master set? I see there was one for sale in 2005 and I know I have a few of them. Would love some guidance.

Thanks!

Lee

I think you’d have to make a request in the registry, if you have possession of one. Many master sets of players are a work in progress, I believe.

Thank you, I just figured since this card has been around since 1959 someone would have made a request already.

PSA has some exciting rules that they use to evaluate whether to include an item in the master set. I’m still not 100% on all of the rules, and I’m also not 100% that the rules are always applied evenly across the board with the different master sets. However, for example, the proof items are often listed as optional. Similarly, items with very small print runs can sometimes end up being optional. For example, I’m a Mays guy, and the dice game is optional under the Mays master set. There are also a couple of proof items that are optional.

Just for fun, they flip the script for the Mays Master Topps set, and the dice game is not optional.

The guidelines for these elements are listed on their website somewhere. It eludes me at the moment, but if you went questing for it, you could probably find it after a deep dive.

Looks like only two panels have ever been graded by PSA (both only AUTHENTIC so your high grade one might get the same treatment). So most likely, the owner has not requested they be added to the Ted Williams Master Set. There is a requirement to add a card to a set that you have to be "working on the set", so you have to have created one with at least five items, I believe.

That way people can't just buy up a super rare item and add it to the registry unless they have some skin in the game.
