Christy Mathewson Day(s) August 12-13

I thought I'd share this. I live just outside of Factoryville and Eddie Frierson will be performing "Matty" on Mathewson's birthday Friday August 12 at 7:30. It's been quite a while since he's performed this here so if anyone is near NEPA, it's well worth the trip! Here's a link to an old Keith Olberman review of it.

I've always liked the weird caption on the E98, with it's different font and the offset quote mark on it's own top line.

Paul, awesome right back at you. I've always loved that card.

Me too, there's a Green one that Andy Huntoon owns that has a wet sheet transfer which looks really neat on the card. I've only seen WST on Green E98's, none of the other colors.

Glenn, those are amazing. Are you selling them at National? What kind of candy was in there, like little hard candies?

I love a Mathewson thread, great call!

Here are two rare, early Mattys

Hi Ryan,

I will be bringing it to the National.
It's a single box with a front and back panel each with card depictions.

I look forward to meeting you there. I'll be at booth # 813.

Love the Coupons with name in blue, the cards seem much more organic compared to the T206. Great card Dean.

I try not to be jealous when I see so many nice things I don't have. Here's my only contribution. I've never had the extra money when the right card came knocking!

Proof

Glenn, something came up and I will miss the national this year. If that Matty box does not sell, let me know and maybe we can work something out- I think it’s super cool.

Great card Gary,
Love the batter in the background apparently knocking the block off the fielder.

Denny's Police Gazette is the new winner for my tastes

Kawika 07-16-2022 02:21 AM

Am loving this thread. Christy Mathewson is my number one guy.

Graig Kreindler painted this portrait of Matty as he was depicted in Benjamin Falk's cabinet photograph (posted by Paul H earlier).

https://photos.imageevent.com/kawika...lk%20Matty.jpg

The same image was "photoshopped" for his W600 Uniform version.

https://photos.imageevent.com/kawika...00%20Matty.jpg

The image was used again to make his 1915 Cracker Jack when he was 35 years old.

https://photos.imageevent.com/kawika...CJ%20Matty.jpg

This Paul Thompson photo, dated to the 1910s, while not a carbon-copy pose, might well have served as an inspiration for his 1914 Cracker Jack.

https://photos.imageevent.com/kawika...J%20Matty1.jpg

The same can be said for the 1914 E&S Postcard.
(I no longer own this item. Sold it a couple of LOTG auctions ago after having failed to predict the collectibles mega-bubble we are now navigating. My bad).

Bob,

That Tuxedo box is a beauty! Can't decide if I like that one better than your "Fan for a Fan" Matty but they are both beautiful items.

Since the Dockman All Star Baseball has already been posted, here is a Matty card that I don't think has been posted yet.

Dankz Doug!!!

I Openly admit that I have been gleaning from David
Evar since I've arrived here many moons ago...

David's cart(more like a Truck!) will ALWAYS be follow'd to see what drops off next...

I've been humbled by David many times to my delight :)

*My Mr. Kreindler's Study of Matty, it's even Signed by Graig his Ownself ;)
