Up for sale is my 1888 Yum Yum Tobacco Billy Sunday It has been rebacked - I have it in a newer Gypsy Queen holder, since it looks so nice in it, but can obviously be taken out.

Here is an article I've written about it: https://tanmanbaseballfan.com/2022/0...he-pirate.html

Wow. What a gorgeous card

Tanner--thanks for pointing out that it is a mislabeled card of Baldwin. Contrary to what the grading companies may say, the convention in these cases is that the photo determines the player, not the name at the bottom (see Old Judge book) of the card. This should be listed as a Baldwin card.

Thank you!

Just as a heads up to anyone watching, the price is negotiable - wasn't really sure what to put it at. (Though if anyone has a massive critique, please PM me it, instead of telling me it is worth $2 here LOL!)

Hey Jay! Thanks for chiming in. I guess it's 6 one way, half a dozen another - the other mistaken identity cards like the 87 Donruss Opening Day / 90 Donruss John Smoltz for example, I've always gone by the name (Bonds/Smoltz) instead of pic Ray/Glavine, but I wouldn't disagree one bit if someone said it the other way around.

It does remind me a couple of years ago, Topps called Shane Beiber "Justin Beiber" on the back of the card. A 10 cent card (uncorrected, mind you) went for CRAZY money. We cardboard crack addicts are crazy sometimes!

The British Cartophilic Society, who really did most of the initial cataloging of 19th century cards, adopted this convention. It could have gone either way but I think when you look at how the card was made(first the image went on, then the name plate below) at least for Old Judges it made perfect sense for the image to govern. This is why we decided to continue with it in the Old Judge book. For most cards it doesn’t matter value wise, but the Anson who isn’t Anson should be a different story.

$2 card

This is a $2 card Tanner. That being said...I'll give you TWICE that LOL

Kidding. Super cool card man.

I do agree that picture trumps text for whatever that's worth.
