There’s no way CSG actually graded this “T206 Cobb”…

Right?

It got the EBay check of approval. It clearly looks fake. It’s out of a holder in two pictures. The slab purposely has it blurred at the top where it’s held in and then you have the fake grade. Wow EBay-

There is a t206 Wagner up for 100k, rare Tolstoi back version. Also backed by ebay authenticity guarantee.

Ah - the rare black-type Arial font version!

The card has to go through the authentication process after being sold. The authenticity guarantee doesn't mean eBay has authenticated it already before sale.

Here's the one from the CSG site.

Looks like the same card.

I don't know. I won't speak on the CSG card, but the one in the listing looks like it's a photocopy of the CSG card, and then photoshopped into a holder.

Weird.

Yoda 06-06-2022 10:18 AM

The seller has nothing currently available to sell except this Cobb. Always a red flag for me.

luciobar1980 06-06-2022 10:52 AM

Hmm, yeah, I really don't know what's going on. The ebay listing made my mind yell FAKE, but the one on the CSG site looks ok.

Makes sense. Still seems odd to see an obvious fake with an authenticity guarantee to me though.

The guarantee is that it will go through the authenticity process, not that it will be deemed authentic.

pokerplyr80 06-06-2022 07:32 PM

But who's paying for a $1 card to go through that process? And if ebay is, maybe they should hire someone to weed some of these out.

GasHouseGang 06-06-2022 07:42 PM

I thought you didn't have to go through the Ebay authentication process if the card is already graded. Wouldn't this card avoid the verification process?

pokerplyr80 06-06-2022 10:28 PM

I may have confused the issue by posting that fake Wagner. That was the card I was referring to. But in general I was just curious. If someone posts a fake raw card for a high price and it gets that authenticity guarantee someone is paying for that card to be shipped to the authenticator and back, and for that service. Who pays for it?

Csg - red - cobb

I own 80+ Cobbs T205s, T206s, T202s, etc... the CSG Red Cobb "1" looks perfectly fine to me. I've actually graded a number of cards with CSG (Andy Broome) and I think they do a pretty good job with the tobacco cards I've submitted to them. I also like their new holder. These guys are the #1 graders of comics, paper money and coins.... they have deep pockets and they know what they are doing. They'll be a major player down the road. Just my 2 cents worth.

FOr the record, I am a fan of CSG as well. Something about the card in the listing didnt look right to me though. If anything I believed the card to be fake, but I may be wrong. That back looked to me like that crackling you see on "aged" fakes.

I don't blame you. While the card on the CSG site looks good, the card in the listing either suffers from a very bad listing and photography job, a real bad photoshop job....or both.

Might be good, but the tones look much different, and I don't think I could take worse pictures of that slab and card if I tried.

Maybe they forgot to take a filter off their camera.

Like this guy. :D

It looks like a piece of shi^%$ to me.. In looking a bit more i guess it could be real, I think I would need to have it in hand to be sure...

Seems like a pretty good deal to me.
