Anyone else out there collecting signed exhibits? It's a new interest for me--just picked up the two Williams, Greenberg, and Dimaggio.
Wish the Mantle were signed....
Let's see some?

That Williams with the No. 9 showing is a real beauty. Here's a signed Exhibit card "single" from 1929-30 ...

My friend Ted Patterson, longtime Baltimore sports media personality who died several years ago, had an amazing and diverse collection, much of which has been auctioned off by LOTG. One day we were in one of his many rooms filled to the brim with mind-boggling stuff, when I saw a stack of a hundred or more exhibits just sitting on a shelf with a rubber band around them. I picked it up and started riffling through them, one hall of famer after another, all signed. I said, "Don't tell me..." and Ted answered, "Yep, they'r'e all signed."

awesome cards, guys!
I have been outbid on that Mantle so many times. I need that card.

For me, this niche combines the beauty of a photo, with a great looking card, and an auto. What could be better than that?

I agree that the Williams #9 showing and the Mantle exhibits are among the best Williams and Mantle cards that exist. The understated, quiet confidence of Mantle and Williams make them undervalued cards for sure. Just my opinion, of course.

Never realized Gene Tunney and Ray Liotta look so much alike.

Yoda 05-31-2022 10:39 AM

I am sure you heard that Ray Liotta died a few days ago. Never forget him in "Goodfellas".

pawpawdiv9 05-31-2022 12:53 PM

I saw a signed Tris Speaker over the holidays, in one of the auctions.

cool--no question of authenticity!

Any signed Greenbergs, Jackie, or Gehrig cards out there?

I am dubious of the number of Jackie Robinson signed Exhibit cards. It seems to me that we never saw them before the last few years in anything like the quantity that has been offered, and some of the signatures look off to me, drawn rather than signed.

A few more I got signed back in the early 1990s:

Appling took a look at this card and went on a rant about how awful those uniforms were:

https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi...ze/Appling.jpg

Boudreau was the free host-guest signature at a local card show:

https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi.../9Boudreau.jpg

I had lunch with Newk once at Dodger Stadium so I had him sign my Exhibit cards and a 1955 Bowman; Dodger Blue sharpie of course:

The one, the only, Miss Julie Newmar

Now that Julie Newmar signed card just skyrocketed to the top of my want list.

We must chat at some point, Adam, if you ever decide to sell.....

The exhibits posted are amazing! Congrats to all that own them. I have nothing to compare regarding exhibits, but I would like to show this vintage George Burke postcard autographed by Debs Garms with a little backstory. Several years ago I purchased a collection from a gentleman named Gordon. Included in his collection were several autographs that he told me he acquired through the mail He was around 10 at the time (1976). Included were several autograph's including a signed 55 Koufax rookie (I had PSA certify it and sold it a couple of years back). This postcard really stayed with me, because Mr. Garms not only took the time to write Gordon back, but looked through his keepsakes and sent him this postcard from when he played with the St. Louis Browns (32-35). As pictured, I had PSA authenticate the card, letter and autograph. Gordon ended up with 4 autographs!

What a nice man Debs Garms was to do this. How often would that happen today? Makes one wonder.

Any other old-timers out there remember Steve Reeves, the original "Exhibit Man," as he called himself, from the 1980s and early 90s? He had part of a little sports card shop in Kensington, Md., and was Mr. Mint's assistant at shows for several years before Dave Szuba took over that role. Steve made a niche out of exhibit cards when you practically couldn't give them away, although I have no idea if he ever got any signed. Nice fellow, always wonder about him whenever I see posts about exhibits.

Those are some great stories. Boy, I wish I had a signed Topps '55 Koufax....

The only thing I remember about Mr. Mint was stopping by one of his tables at a show and his snarling at me for picking up my free copy of a magazine he was giving away.

I do also remember a seller at the National about 5-6 years ago who had stacks of Exhibits--1920s boxing, Ted Williams, Mantle, Dimaggios--and I picked up a bunch of them. They were dirt cheap! Oh, the good old days...

Don't take it personally, he liked to snarl at everybody. Made him feel big, or something.

Now here is one of my exhibit cards that I really wish were signed....anybody got one or even seen one?

Loving that Marilyn Monroe exhibit. Signed would be even cooler!

Here’s a few of mine. Not sure about the authenticity on the two ungraded examples, but have no reason (yet) to doubt they are legit.:

Came across one of my photos, the closest I will get to a signed MM exhibit card. Photographer stamped, date stamped with the day she appeared at Grauman's, PSA graded Jane Russel auto...

Sorry for the non-exhibit-related, gratuitous MM photo. Now back to regular programming....

.........I don't pursue signed exhibits exactly but Johnny invited my son and I into his kitchen to sign this one plus a ball. We were 1/2 block from historic Athletic Park where he played as a young guy. He was a very kind and generous with his time type of person. Great stories about the old days !!
The park was made from local granite deposits.

I just picked up a signed Whitey Kurowski Exhibit. I have no idea why they left off his first name on the card, but it would have been cool if Whitey had only signed his first name.

By the way, there aren't many players who were as good as Whitey who had so few cards. Claude Passeau was one.
