A 1971 PSA 8 Claude Raymond sold for over $3,500 on eBay
Having assembled a 1971 Topps set and now upgrading a number of cards I realize that the Claude Raymond is difficult to find centered; mine is about 70/30. But $3,500? Is it that scarce?

Two PSA 7's recently sold in the $200 range, but the PSA 8 does have a MBA Silver Diamond sticker on it . |
The seller on that 71T Raymond was Cardfinesse. I just bought some raw 67T cards from him, they're in transit to me. He's got a great store, real nice pics.

Wow, certainly is a nice card but I can think of 100 cards I'd rather buy for that money. Shows you the draw of set registry. I had to go see if mine was worthy...I'd say it's a strong EXMT, very crisp corners...and OC. :)

I have the 71 set fully graded....prices for cards in this set have exploded over the past few years. When building the set, the 536 card was one I absolutely opted for in a 7 . It is the 2nd lowest pop for an 8 in this set, and one of 25 or so 8's that has 4 or fewer graded higher. Combination of those two stats really drive the price up for those set builders opting for 8's or better. If one was lucky, they could pick up a 71 Ryan and Mays in 8's for near the same price of this semi-high # common.

High grade vintage commons going for stupid money is nothing new. The '71 Raymond is notoriously difficult to find anywhere near centered. That accounts for a lot of it...

That's only $3,000 more than my complete set cost.

Lucky man, I decided to relive my childhood during the pandemic, plus I've obsessively done upgrades on a somewhat limited budget. Though economically impractical, I'd still do the same except using greater patience in my selections as my cards have sharp corners, but are mostly off-center as the rest of my sets.
