WTB: M101-4 and/or M101-5 Sporting News Joe Jackson

Hello!

I'm on the lookout for an M101-4 and/or M101-5 Sporting News Joe Jackson.
I would consider either one in any graded condition.

Thank you! :)

Brian

Still looking if anyone has one they are willing to part with!
Thank you! :)

There is one in the current Leland’s auction, ending this weekend (not mine). Here is link

Currently the high bidder on that one, but we'll see what happens in the next three days. ;) :)

Thank you though!

coming down to the final few hours. I hope you win it Brian

Good luck! I would think that that price would double before the auction closes, but who knows. The Ruth rookie looks cheap too. It has a crease but it is dead centered.

Yeah we'll see how much higher it goes!
They always seem to creep out of my range at the end. ;)

Congrats! Great looking example. I think you got it for a good price.

Jay, the Ruth was super low until extended bidding. Although it closed at $250k, I think that was light considering a very ugly 1.5 sold in February of 2021 for same price. I felt the HM Taylor Cobb went cheap too, since a 1.5 just traded in LOTG for $15k+. Frankly, this is the first auction in a while where I felt prices were normal-low. Is that the market, Leland’s, or both? Or maybe I am just wrong…

Agreed on the price...I would have gone a little higher, but I kept expecting someone else to bid it up during extended bidding.

Yes the few lots that I was tracking seemed to go for a little less than what I was expecting compared to all the other recent auctions. Will be something to watch in the next few auctions...

I agree, Ryan. I have seen things go for less than what I expected at Leland’s in the past so that may be part of it, but I think the economy may finally be catching up with the card market. It is a lot easier to put your money in non-interest bearing assets when interest rates are close to zero. With inflation at forty year highs and plenty more Fed rate hikes on the horizon buyers may become a little gun shy. Quality cards should still be good long term buys but in the short to medium term their prices could go down. The high priced shiny basketball cards of Luca et al may suffer a lot.
Oh, Brian, congratulations on the Jackson. That is a nice looking card at a lower than expected price.

Congratulations on the pick up. As with many prewar cards these days I really wish I had picked one of these up when I first started looking.
