T206 Red Cobb PSA 1.5 Value?
I have wondered how much this card might go for in auction. It is NOT for sale or trade.
What do you think it would go for in a major, or minor :), auction? The blemishes are the spider wrinkles on the front, not touching his head or face. Thanks in advance. And if you a have better looking, or equal to, 1.5 I would love to see it. Love the low grade, high aesthetic cards. https://luckeycards.com/t206cobb.jpg |
Beautiful card Leon. Having been following a lot of lower end Red & Green Cobb sales lately I would think this would be in the $5k range given the crispness of the corners and solid registration/centering.

Wow. That's some 1.5. I'd put it in the range of what a decent PSA 3 would sell for, maybe $7,000 or so.
|
Always enjoy seeing your Red Cobb Leon!
My guess on value would be in the $6500 to $6700 range. Eye appeal rules ;) |

That ain't no 1.5 baby!

Easily as nice as the recent 1.5 that sold a few weeks ago (REA?) for $6k including the BP
Killer - just picked one up myself, though not as nice as yours 😢 |
Leon's wrinkles have never looked better.:D

Outlier
I’m going to be the outlier here and say it would go for 8 grand plus ….. it’s got beautiful color and centering with the Red Cobbs finally getting their rightful recognition. The 1.5 grade is kind of a drag on the price, in a way although most smart collectors have learned to “Buy the card not the holder “!

I'd say $7,000.

Thanks for the guesses so far. Keep them coming.
As a side note, and noted before, I got this card 3 yrs ago on ebay. I made a deal with the seller for a BIN. He closed the auction for me to buy it and someone else bought it in like 1 minute. The seller said his hands were tied and he had to sell to the other guy, but if the other guy reneged he would sell it to me. The guy reneged and I ended up getting it for $2139 delivered. . |
6k-7k. Time to sell :)

This is a "1" due to the Castle backstamp and the scratch across his chest, I like interesting backstamps, besides I spend way more time looking at the front of cards than the backs.

How about breaking it out and sending it to SGC? I bet it would receive a 2.5 at least, and since the card has so many admirable qualities, I could see it fetching $10k via AH.

Paid 360 from jonstats back in the day. Would sell for likely half of what yours would go for.

Leon,
Beautiful card!!! I agree with several of the guys here... $9k-$10k. Cobbies have been moving for the last 4-5yrs and feel like they are still a bargain from an investment standpoint. |

File under if you can't beat em'...join em'! The superprinted Red Cobb...the doubleprinted goudey ruth batting...the doubleprinted (albeit high #) 52 topps mantle.
Over time increased supply seems to equate to increased demand...atleast with 3 of the most iconic fronts in bb card history. here's mine currently in my pc. great cobbies everyone! |
Things are so crazy in T206 World right now that if you don't love it, time to sell it.

I have always liked this card. When I get mine, it will be sure to have clear registration…have seen so many with blurry eyes. Guessing $6750.

I'd wager 8K for Leon's Cobb. Great example Leon.
Mine is over-graded by today's standards. But the registration, color, centering and jumbo borders make it a keeper. I agree with Pete. An iconic front that demand will most likely outpace supply. Great Cobby's everyone. I never get bored at looking at Red Cobbs. https://www.net54baseball.com/pictur...ictureid=10125 |
Leon....
9 k +:):d

So a very nice board member just pm'd me an offer of 4500 for my Cobby. I told him the least I saw, value wise, was about 5k in the thread, and I think it could be closer to 8k. I asked why he would make such a low offer, even though it's not for sale. He said it wasn't low for him.

Love those borders and centering, and think it’s a great example. I would hold.
Wish I had this one back I sold on BST for about 2200. haven’t seen another fat border in that range for years. |
7500 plus
|
Hi Leon,
I averaged all of the estimates out for you so far and it comes out to ... $7526.92 So I would go with that give or take 92 cents. Edited to add: My algorithm says $3,220 which goes to show how strong the market for T206 Hall of Famers has been since I last updated six months ago and also how nice your example is compared to a typical PSA 1.5. |
They’re all amazing looking cards guys! I’m in the camp of ~$8k, maybe $9k on a good day. Alas, my red cobb has great registration and color but lots of other flaws. I still love it even in an SGC A holder.

I think it would end up being a good deal for a buyer, because like it or not the market does price by the number.... all the locusts would swarm around the prevailing price of a 1.5-2 but unlikely to pay a steep premium. better off trying to sell privately.

Even though that is a beauty, here are my thoughts. Considering the highest 1.5 has sold for $6k w/ a VCP of $5.1k and 2.5 has sold for $8k w/ a VCP of $6.7k, I can't imagine it surpassing $7k in a auction environment . Private sale, very likely though. Just my humble opinion. Thomas |
