Help - raw Cobb look legit or no?
2 Attachment(s)
Hello all
I made a connection with another collector who just asked my opinion about the authenticity of this Cobb - I am no expert but know we have many here! Thoughts about this one? He said it’s an auction from government surplus/seizure Thx for your advice…. Personally, no way would I trust it to be real without being graded or authenticated. Your thoughts?? Thx! Jeff |
it's not authentic, the Red Cobb wasn't printed with a 150 back.

Busted!
Busted!

No shot that is real!
The front is blurry and appears artificially aged, IMO. |
I could be wrong, but I believe that little black dot/burn looking mark is something found on t206 reprints.

You guys are amazing with your knowledge.. I’ll pass this along to the other collector. I was pretty sure you’d have very helpful and specific advice - am never disappointed here
Thx again - Net54 pays it forward again! Jeff |

As far as difficulty level, it's like asking me if I can tell the difference between two of my own family members' faces versus asking me if I can tell the difference between two houseflies. |
I can't believe I'm an adult who's not asking this question about a place on his arm...
Does anyone have any more details on the dot? This'll help id repros and repros-turned-fakes.

Signs like that are not really what should be looked for generally, as was mentioned previously, this card has as much similarity to a real Cobb as a Fiero has with a Ferrari. The issue is that to my wife, the Fiero is the same as a Ferrari. Education with these cards and handling many is how to learn, if that has not been done please ask or buy graded. While neither solution is guaranteed to be right, it’s better than a guess. Also, as the saying goes…if it’s too good to be true, it likely isn’t. |

Thanks, Justin and Ryan.
The Piedmonts, Sweet Caps, and dots in different location answer what I'm getting at in that we have to be wary of bleaching in any location for this particular publication. Easy when it's in-hand, but pictures of stuff being sold aren't always at the resolution I'd like. Even seemingly decent, non-blurry pictures. |
