Jackie Robinson exhibit...need help

* sorry, this thread was originally posted in the 1950's buy/sell forum...now posting in correct area*
Just picked up these two Robinsons today at a collectibles show. Just wondering how the one is so dark. There was a box full of these 1947-66 Exhibits and several had varying degrees of the darkness. If you look you can even see the slightest hint of darkness on the lower right corner of the brighter one. Is this a production issue with the development of the photo image? The card is in great shape other than being dark with no creases. Backs of both are the correct tan color. Thanks for any insight. -Claude |
These aren't photos so there is no contrast difference from 'development'. They are halftone prints. I have seen some cards reused in some runs that have darker areas due to ink variations but nothing as bad as that one. Looks like some sort of damage. The splotches on the uniform suggest that as well. Is there any odor?

No smell that I can detect. The back has not staining. Do you think it would grade via PSA or SGC or should I not even try?

If it's real, it's probably a VG-EX 4 or so. Edge chipping is the main issue. I don't think they'd take off points for the additional inking from the factory, if that's what it is. They don't take off for "toning" or the colorization of white to brownish over the years, which is actual damage, IMO.
