HM Taylor 1907-09 Ty Cobb

Fantastic example in last nights LOTG with a date stamp of October 07 and a message referencing the WS. I made a run at it but my monthly card budget has been abused as of late. Hopefully a member picked it up, it's a pretty special card.

My question, is there any way to date these other than a postal stamp?

I think that all of the player postcards were issued in 1907. Nearly all of the canceled examples of players that I have seen were postmarked in October of 1907. I have images of six different Cobb postcards that are postmarked. Five are from Oct 1907 and one is from Mar 1909.

I am sure that some old inventory was sold and used after 1907, but judging by the known copies, I would say that they were originally produced in 1907.

FWIW, most of the team postcards with postmarks that I have seen also date from October 1907, but I have also seen several from October 1908.

Thank you Kevin.

Hi Phil,
There is some good discussion about this very topic on p.2 of this old thread:

Thank you Kris, great information and a fun read. Interesting the card that sold last night is pictured in that thread. Definitely adding an example to my want list.
