Favorite Sportscaster cards

I'll start with one of mine, a card that was ahead of its time and reminds me of the 92 Upper Deck Shaq RC.

Anthony, whose game was based on accuracy not power, was a dramatic contrast to another great bowler of the era who threw HARD, Mark Roth, who sadly passed away last year.

I saw many, many events in the Astrodome so I got a kick out of adding this card to my collection years ago. This shot appears to be taken from the same seats we sat in for University of Houston football games as students. Sat there for the Game of the Century duel between Elvin Hayes and Lew Alcindor as well.
I had nearly the same view from my stand on the mezzanine level selling beer during Oilers games. I had to duck down to see the scoreboard though, because of the overhanging upper deck. https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0SvyA2QAw...0/IMG_0006.jpg https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pugTFkd5j...0/IMG_0007.jpg |

It took me a while to come around, but I'm a big fan of the Sportscasters. Lots of HOF pre-rookies. Here are a few of my personal faves:

One of the greatest.

Were all of these cards issued over the 3 years or were they issued in series? I know nothing about them. Thanks!

Are the copyright dates on the back the actual issue dates?

And strictly speaking, since the card was no earlier than 1977, it isn't a playing days issue for Summitt. Her last playing days were the 1976 Olympics. In 1977 she was coaching at Tennessee in AIAW competition. |

Omniscience not necessary, just informed opinion (which is more than I have).

I screwed up earlier. The Harris postcard was 1992, not 1972. Apologies.
|
AS far as I know they were - At least in the US- sold by subscription, so much a month for a certain number of cards.
I think - but am not sure- that each subscription began with set 1 and continued showing up as long as your money held out. The number at the lower right ends in the set and card number. The Astrodome card is set 20 card 2. A totally crazy set if you count all the different printing locations, languages, etc. |

Yeah, there were lots of subjects only issued in Specific countries. I know I've had stacks of Finnish and Swedish Boxing Sportscasters, and each country has several local boxers only found in those sets. Nothing as dramatic as a Maradona though. The foreign version with the same subjects often have different dates on the back from the English language versions. |

I'm pretty sure this is Louganis's earliest known card.

Maybe one of the most terrifying Sports Cards ever produced. Lauda's famous crash scene.
