What is a Private Listing on eBay?

I was looking at feedback for a seller on eBay that I was thinking of buying something from, and a number of the feedback entries show (Private listing) instead of the item description and number. Can anyone explain what a private listing is?

I’m not certain, but I believe it is when the seller chooses to keep the bidders’ identities private. This is an option sellers have when listing the card. I avoid these auctions, because how do I know the seller hasn’t created a second account and is shilling his/her items?

Adult/sex materials are usually listed as private auctions.

Could be wrong, but I believe it may also be used when a seller tells a potential buyer (who may have negotiated with him?) he will sell something to him at a certain price and instead of sending an official offer, he just makes the sale private (so no one can swoop in and grab it) and sends him the link.
