Question on this 1966 Topps Mantle? Venezuelan?
Recently picked up this 66 Mantle at a local card show...it looked a little dull in hand until I got it next to other 66 cards, especially another Mantle...it is super flat with no gloss. Back looks similar in color other than OC.
Looked up the difference in a regular issue and a Venezuelan card and I've read that year the only difference is the flat, no gloss...no other markings or writing. Did I inadvertently pick up a card south of the border or is this just a flat, possibly sun dried a little regular Mantle? BTW...passes the smell test and would doubt a RP would be OC like this. https://i.ibb.co/PZD0gvF/66-Mantle-Front.jpg Card in question is on the bottom - https://i.ibb.co/zfBGhmJ/66-Mantle-Rear.jpg |

Not a Venezuelan. The coloring on the back is significantly different as well.

Thanks guys...although the money uptick would have been fun I would have got rid of it as it wouldn't have fit my collection so kinda relieved. Just a dull Mantle...lol.
THANKS again... |
I’ve had a 66’ Vene Mantle before, the color difference in hand with a comparable is pretty easy to see. The backs are much more orangy-red than a US Topps printing. In the future use of the backs is easier to use in this situation. :)

Probably 20 years ago, I bought a low grade '59 Mantle off eBay just to have one. When it arrived, I noticed it looked slightly different from my other 59's (very dirty) and said "Hecho en Venezuela" on the back. I bought it for $35 I think and sold it the next month for $500, lol.
