1959 and 1960 Topps Baseball Card Backs
 

Don't know if I'll come off sounding goofy, but I was curious if others had encountered this. For the two series in those two card sets - 1959 and 1960 - that have either white or grey backs - I feel like I can identify the card back simply by looking at the front. I find with my own sets a uniform color intensity and overall presentation that can be discerned. Anybody else noticed this? I'll withhold my observation about which back has which specs, to see what others might say.

For me, the 59 GBs have less of a glossy (duller) sheen on their front than the WB cards. Easy to identify IMO. With the 60s, besides the small variations on the front, their sheen variance on the front is less noticeable to me, but the WBs appear to be just slightly glossier.

With the 1960s, in addition to the GB and the "dull" WB, there is also a much rarer "bright" WB version.

I did both gray and white back variants in both those sets. As I recall in 59 the grey backs were lighter and clearer in color and the opposite was the case in 60

I guess I agree with most of the replies, but while I may not be goofy, I may, in fact, be full of you-know-what. I looked at my 59s again, and while I think broadly the color intensity (and/or gloss) seems stronger on the white backs, it's not as uniform as I originally asserted. So, as Gilda would say, "Never mind."

Good excuse to look back through those two great sets
