Some healthy prices on off back T206's last night. This one stymies me...a presumably vey common mid career ernie banks team issued photo pack card. From my experience these are commonly available in even unopened condition. And...it's not even a "card?"
Price seems cray cray to me. Who the F cares if its graded a 10??? https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...e?itemid=99226 |
I'm kind of curious about https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...e?itemid=98808.
I get that Series 8 is the hardest for T210 but nearly $2000 for an SGC 1.5 is more than I am used to seeing for any T210 that is not a well-known player. Is it because he played in the major leagues (pitching for both the Dodgers and the Pittsburgh Rebels of the Federal League)? Or did someone just really want a Series 8? I assume this is an anomaly and doesn't mean a Series 8 graded 5 or higher would be a $10K card. Note: I neither consigned or bid on this lot. Just watching it as a type collector and wondering if there are any types left that are affordable. |
That T205 with yellow elephant definitely got its price pumped after being mentioned on this board. Congrats to the consignor!

T206 Stone PSA 5 Piedmont 350 … $1440
What am I missing here? Is it the caption letter residue that got people excited? https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...e?itemid=98737 |

It is def a great addition to my Master set and matching Paul Thompson Type 1 photo archive. One more crossed off the never ending list. |
I was most surprised at a Sanella Ruth in SGC 4 for $3600 - that was a shocker for me!

A few of my favorites from the auction (I didn't win any of these):

PSA 3 EPDG Chance red portrait for $6,900 (and other wild sales)
Re: headscratchers
If a PSA 3 EPDG Chance red portrait sells for $6,900, what does that imply for a PSA 4 or PSA 5? Is a PSA 5 now a $20k card? https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...e?itemid=98355 How much would this one go for? (Asking for a friend! :D ) https://www.psacard.com/auctionprice...auction/131368 Other crazy prices that raise similar comp-related questions: PSA 1 EPDG Dahlen Boston: $1,100 https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...e?itemid=98394 The PSA pop report shows nine copies of the EPDG Dahlen, four of which are graded higher. PSA 1 (MC) Sovereign 350 Anderson: $840 https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...e?itemid=98276 The PSA pop report shows 20 copies of the Sov 350 Anderson, 17 of which are graded higher. |

Maybe that would make a good thread...show your non-smiling Ernie Banks cards. Perhaps his non-smiling cards should be worth more money, due to their rarity. Brian (Ernie's cards always make me smile) |

There were a few relative bargains to be had. I was happy to get this T3 Kid Elberfeld and some mid-grade post war cards at reasonable prices. Gary G01db3rg https://createauctioncdn.azureedge.n...1_1_226185.jpg |

The Anderson was because of the double struck name and the Sovereign back. https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=172270 |
Ah, missed that. Thanks. Anybody have thoughts to share on the EPDG Chance or Dahlen?

I can't figure this one....is it the rarity of the front/back combo?

$2400 was not enough for me to get a D304 Otis Crandall PSA 4 (Butter Krust). Whoever beat me out, enjoy it; I will get the next one for half the price.
Prices are really surreal. After every auction closes I get so tempted to just consign everything! But I would miss the cards too much. And, who do you consign too?! Every auction sets records, regardless of AH. |

I was able to land the T205 Johnson. I’ve been wanting one for a while. With the price hikes, I’m regulated to lower grade. I liked the way this one presents, so I figured I’d better do it now so before I’m priced out completely. An overpay today for a bargain tomorrow? Hopefully.

It was a type 2...not an astra...and it was an SGC 4...and it was $3600.
Still ridiculous to me???? https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...e?itemid=98220 |
Two people decided that they had to have a Ruth card that night? Beats me.
Amazing picture quality on this EPDG Walter Johnson Portrait
I think that's the prettiest WaJo portrait I've ever seen, just unreal color and resolution. Together with the tough back, someone got themselves an amazing and special card at a great price by ignoring that ridiculous grade. |

Yep.. at the consigner’s Benefit and at my expense. When I saw the Net54 post, I knew it cost me 4 figs. 😆 I am still happy with the price I paid. I was going much higher. But man…
It is def a great addition to my Master set and matching Paul Thompson Type 1 photo archive. One more crossed off the never ending list.
Sucks it got called out. For what it's worth - I'd say still a great price. Superb example! |

I thought maybe someone that knows T210s better than I would answer, but I guess not. That’s a tough card to be sure, but past sales do not predict that price in my mind. It was flying from the start, though. I guess a couple guys really needed it. I put in a marker bid at the start, but did not follow up. Too rich for me. |
Thanks Ian, Chad and Phil. Such a tough card to find with any semblance of reasonable centering.
|
Regarding the T210, I thought it was high when it went to $650 on the first day. I don't like to comment on bidding while a lot is still open, so I waited until the auction was over to say anything (and it got a lot higher on the last day). Every bid starting at $100 was outbid immediately, so someone put in a maximum bid and I don't think it ever got topped.
|
I paid less for the Dahlen Brooklyn variation than the Prince of Wales (Hi Charles, how is the family?) backed copy. I figure I got a bargain.
Also snagged the '34 Goudey Dean and '52 Topps Hodges. |

I was able to pick up a good number of T206 commons to add to my set.
Including a couple EPDG and Tolstoi backs, so I was happy. Got outbid on a ton more, but that's life. :) |

Did any of y'all win this Lou Fiene? This may be the nicest Lou Fiene P350 I ever saw. I think I was the 3rd underbidder. I wasn't really in the market for a p350 Fiene, so I didn't go higher. I have cards with pinholes, but I need a deep, deep discount. I guess that's why I don't win many cards anymore.

I thought this was a decent price given how crazy portraits have gotten. I usually do not buy qualifiers, but a small dot on the back does not bother me in the least. |

Missed on a lot, but did pick me up another WaJo.

I missed out on an e93 upgrade. Might be a common player in some respects but an uncommonly pretty card. Still, really strong price. Felt like it was me and someone else and would have just kept going so I chose bed.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned the Jake Atz, a PSA 3.5 with a Carolina Brights back which fetched a cool $8,100.
