OT: What is the most you have paid for piece of cardboard?
This is a trick question. The entire question does not fit in the title box.
What is the most you have paid for a piece of cardboard that is not a trading card in any sport or non-sport. In other words cardboard that is not related to the hobby in any way. If you have paid more for a trading card than your honest correct answer to the first question, can you look at yourself look in your mirror and see a sane individual? Answer rationally and show an example of your most valuable cardboard not related to the hobby in any way. If you live in a large cardboard box and do not have access to the forum, good luck. |
Sanity is WAY overrated

The most I've paid for a piece of cardboard that is not a trading card is, I'm afraid, whatever amount I paid for some other hobby-related cardboard. I have a Boston Garter box that I probably paid like $100 for.
What's the most you've ever done for a ream of copy paper? And have you ever done more than that for the value of 500 dollar bills of any particular denomination? |
Probably the cardboard box the TV came in. And do I get extra credit because I tossed the TV aside and only played with the box?

I paid about $100K for my college diploma (cardboard). Despite all the news about how much the price of college diplomas has gone up over the past thirty years, I doubt mine would get much on Ebay. I am also afraid to get mine authenticated, as a couple of the autographs on it look like stamps/fakes. But, I am a collector, not a flipper, so I will just hold onto it.

My cardboard is fancy. It usually cost's me about $18. I call it fancy because it's round. It also comes with a free pizza on top of it.

I think all of my house loan documents came in a FEDEX shipping envelope that was a thin cardboard material. I guess that would have to qualify.

The cardboard box that carried the immobilization brace and implements for my torn rotator cuff surgery was just ridiculously expensive. But, hey, it included a 'free' drawstring bag to put the monstrosity in after I improved enough to finally have it removed. What a bargain!!!

In 2006 I bought a nice new red Kawasaki Ninja still in the box. Weirdly when I came back a few days later to pick it up they had thrown my box away and I got stuck with a motorcycle.
That was one of those better to ask for forgiveness than permission purchases.:D I bought it on the way home from the airport from a trip to Europe. The wife left for China before I picked it up. So when she got back a few weeks later I already had it for a few weeks. Not sure why she tolerates me.:D |
I paid $8 each for some moving boxes. It’s possible I spent more at some point but I have no memory of it.
On number 2, I can definitely look myself squarely in the mirror about the money I’ve spent on cards |
I remember my ex wife’s rings came in a box with a velvet covered cardboard insert. The rings cost thousands and still costing me thousands to this day.

The best time I had buying cardboard was back when the store I worked at was closing. I was given the task of ordering packing boxes for the registers as well as other packing material. I can't remember the exact numbers, but it was probably somewhere around 50 boxes. I got on the computer found everything I needed entered the number of boxes and hit accept. When I saw the total, I was like damn that's a lot of money for boxes, shrugged said oh well not my problem. A few hours later I realized what I did wrong. They don't sell the boxes individually. We laughed about that for the rest of the week, even though someone corrected the mistake for me before it got out of hand. Although I would have liked to have seen them ship in 50 stacks of 10 shipping boxes, because that would have really been funny.

Paid $600 for a 1950's Winchester Christmas advertisement about 10 years ago. Had 3 Panels of the 4 ( or 5) . Had things like Roller skates , Fishing gear, Baseball Gloves advertised . A very neat piece .

I paid more for an original Sailor Jerry flash panel than any card I own. It's on cardboard.
