Super Bowl Tawk

Post whatever random feelings you want to express about 'The Big Game' (Don't want the NFL to sue me for improper use of their trademarked intellectual property. Whoops!! Already used it in the thread title!! Screw it, I'm going to leave it and live dangerously!!).

With my Bills out, the mathematical equation for who I want to win can be expressed as the MOCK factor:

Is (M - O) > (C - K)?

M = My great love for Matthew Stafford, after having him on my fantasy team a million times over the years.

O = My complete annoyance at Odell Beckham Jr.'s self-involved diva personality.

C = The enjoyment of seeing Cincinnati finally reach the promised land.

K = My complete annoyance at Kansas City for screwing up in OT against the Bengals, after NOT screwing up in OT against Buffalo.

butchie_t 02-10-2022 08:25 PM

I’d like to see Cincinnati win but then having to listen to that pencil neck Chris Collinsworth and blow hard Boomer Esiason really takes the shine off of that pick.

It would be nice to see Stafford pick up the win and solidify the horrible franchise that is the Lions.

But I will be rooting for the referees……they never seem to win anything. :D

In this equation, M, O, and C should all be valued highly, with M-O calcing out to a small number. K should be valued zero, because KCs failure wasn't Cincinnati's fault (one could argue it was to Cincinnati's credit,) and your Bills lost because they let a team that should've been dead move the ball 44 yards in 10 seconds.

I was hoping the Bills would win, too. The Bengals are the next best thing.

Stafford

I'm guessing the majority of Michigan's lower penninsula and any current or former Lions fans are rooting for Stafford and the Rams....just to shove it in the faces of the Lions ownership that they had a Super Bowl caliber QB all those years, but couldn't get him a quality 'team' for support. Just my opinion!

D. Bergin 02-11-2022 12:23 PM

Just hope it's a great game.

Would love to see Stafford win one.

Rooting for Odell to. He was great for the Giants for a few years in the beginning. They ultimately ruined him by repeatedly sending him out on a super floppy ankle, until he basically got his leg snapped in half. It was all downhill from there. To be clear, Odell's issues were always with management. His team-mates loved him. Justin Pugh and several of his other former Giants co-workers, did a good interview recently about what a great teammate he was. I can't speak for his influence on the Brown's. Going to play for Baker Mayfield, certainly wasn't much better then playing with an aging Eli Manning.

I also have an affinity for dominant Defensive players, so Aaron Donald is a favorite of mine also.

Then you have the Bengals...and there's not a whole lot to dislike about them for me either sooooooo............

Let's just have a great game!

JollyElm 02-11-2022 02:42 PM

What you've said points to what a rarity this game is. Every year has its two fan bases going bananas cheering their teams on, but then there's that huge part of the country that absolutely abhors one of the squads and wants them to bite the dust. Let's call them Human Anti-Bradys :D. This year will actually be a game where whoever (whomever?) comes out on top will be fine for almost everyone (except said fan bases). It certainly could make the game less exciting, with all of that fun-filled hate eliminated, but I imagine as the game gets under way, each of us will immediately know who we want to win...and then the traditional screaming at the TV will commence.

+1

I'm hoping Cincinnati wins but I'd have to say, I would LOVE for Stafford, that long-suffering warrior, to be interviewed while holding the trophy.

commishbob 02-11-2022 04:54 PM

I'll watch because I always watch and I'd like to see Stafford take home a ring but really all I hope for is a watchable game and for my fajitas and wings to come off the grill on time and perfectly cooked.

Seven 02-11-2022 05:11 PM

I like Joe Burrow, Seems like a great kid. Stafford absolutely deserves a ring though too. I'll be happy regardless of who wins.

vintagetoppsguy 02-13-2022 04:09 PM

My prediction is Rams 34-17

esd10 02-13-2022 04:16 PM

Long suffering bengals fan here and I hope cincinnati pulls this one off and brings a Lombardi back to cincinnati.

Worst halftime show in history. A bunch of idiots jumping around and holding their crotches. Not one of them could hold a tune. Disgraceful!!

.

D. Bergin 02-14-2022 09:56 AM

Thought both defenses played great. Seemed like the Rams got like 8 chances to punch it in at the end, and eventually the Bengals defense was going to wear down and let it happen.

Most of those penalties were valid, but I do think that first one inside the 10 on 3rd down, was the ref's trying to extend the game. They let that stuff go all game, up until that point.

Burrow, just seemed like he couldn't find his guys for most of the game. Outside of that one amazing catch by Chase and the missed Offensive PI on Higgins, against Ramsey, he couldn't get much going. I think Cincy should have tried running the ball a bit more. Mixon seemed like he was finding holes in the 2nd half of the game. Probably should have sent his talented receiving corp into the slot more often or thrown to Mixon more. He was holding on to the ball way too long, waiting for routes to develop.

Couldn't agree more. Almost turned it off before it started being forced to watch a maniac screaming at the top of his lungs (this is a movie star ???) like it was a Professional Wrestling show. I know I'm getting old, but thank the powers above for the mute button.

LOL, guess it wasn't for you then. I was getting snacks and drinks, so I only saw about 2 minutes of it.

.....but what about the game.

butchie_t 02-14-2022 10:26 AM

Gentleman there are mute buttons on remotes for a reason. I listened to the game after all the political crap was done, muted where it needed to be muted and turned that mess off as soon as the clock ran out.

I wish Cincinnati would have been able to pull it out but they let LA hang around just a bit too much and LA took advantage of that. Congrats to Matt Stafford and heres to a big ole thumb in the eye of the collective brain trust in the Lions front office organization.

It WAS you and not Matt. And now you all gotta deal with that.

Onto next year. Although I will be team less for the first time in my history of following football. My team died on Feb 1, 2022. HTTR.

B.T.

I suspect many of the folks hand wringing this morning over the crotch grabbing would have been laughing uproariously if it was Kid Rock and Ted Nugent, but I digress . . . .

True, but I knew that was coming and occupied myself with something else during halftime.

On a positive note, that missed extra point was very profitable for me. My coworker and I hit the the 3-0 square at halftime and again at the end of the game to split $800. :D

A movie star who oddly began his career in.... pro wrestling!

It's hard to take the surrounding show stuff seriously, but for me it's the moments where it's obvious they're pulling a milli vanilli. Like when the guy was "playing" the piano but there were parts when he was not even moving.

HaHa, yeah. I love seeing that in every Super Bowl show. They might spend 40 billion dollars on the halftime show...but they sure as hell ain't wiring up the backup band to actually play real music.

:D

Not so much for me. Nugent was good 40 yrs ago, Kid Rock, not for me.

How about someone that can actually sing? I don't care what color, sexual persuasion, party affiliation or anything. I just want someone that actually sounds like they have a good voice, isn't yelling gibberish or holding their crotch, and can honestly sing. Is that asking too much?

I went to a Super Bowl party and it was great. I had a ton of fun. I heard there was a football game on too.

I weirdly liked The Rock schtick. Cheesy as hell....but that's what this whole spectacle is to begin with. Capital Cheese!

At least he wasn't selling crypto.

I had the Bengals +4. That missed extra point will buy me steak and lobster for a week.

Ha ha! I posted this on FB yesterday:
"You think YOU have problems? What about all of the people who have the Rams' 4 point box in the Super Bowl pool and watched the extra point go wrong? I weep for them."

I actually think a WWE Royal Rumble match would be far more entertaining than any halftime show I've watched my entire life! Would love to see an older Ric Flair pumping the crowd up!

ronniehatesjazz 02-14-2022 04:55 PM

Regarding the game, I'm a diehard Bengals fan and I thought both teams played lousy. Burrow has been hyped waaayyy too much (seen his card prices lately?) and never could get things going. I may be an odd cynical millennial but I think his "swag" is a veneer and I'm shocked more people don't see right through it. He's a solid quarterback with some extremely talented targets to throw too. The Bengals o-line is obviously terrible but he never seems to adjust for it. I definitely want him to do well but I would say he's probably the 9th or 10th best QB in the league right now and certainly doesn't warrant Brady comparisons yet.

Arnold was a beast, as was Von Miller. Cooper Kupp was impressive as always. Stafford was as mediocre as ever but will get a ride on the hype train by numbskull reporters all off-season. The Bengals D is one of the most underrated in the league and showed up to play yesterday. Mixon played well and should've got more touches. The refs weren't great but had bad calls on both sides to cancel them out of the equation. I think neither team is back in the SB next year but I think the real shocker will be the lack of success for the Rams next year. Kupp is at his peak, Stafford is and will always be IMO a so-so quarterback, Arnold may be retiring, and Von Miller's a FA.

I'm assuming you mean Aaron Donald? I haven't heard anyone call him Arnold, unless that was on purpose as a nickname.

insidethewrapper 02-14-2022 07:48 PM

I think the betting was -4 Rams and +4 Bengals. If that extra point was good everyone would have lost to the casinos.

This Super Bowl thing is getting to be like a wrestling show. Not for me. Halftime is usually leave the room time, glad I did this time.

Haha, yeah that almost sounds like some type of butchered portmanteau. Thanks for catching that lol. I've always had a hard time with people that have two first names and I can't even get a single one of them right!
