Mickey Mantle Rawlings glove and box
 

Hi All:

Not my area of expertise. I don't collect this type of thing but it looked pretty good to me and assume someone will be interested in it.

I just picked up this Mantle Rawlings glove and box and looking for info. I have been unable to find images of this box online.

Can anyone tell me the year this was issued. Any other info appreciated.

Well Mantle won the Triple Crown in 1956 so I would guess 1957-62 range or so. Nice item. I would be interested if you want to PM me with a ballpark price for purchase.

You might want to see if you can determine when the large Mantle photo (it seems on the bottom of the box?) was taken, that could help to limit the date range. The large Mantle photo seems late '50's to me.

I have boxes for the MM, MM4, and MM8 model Mantle gloves. I would love to add a box for the MM9 model. :D I sent you a PM.

Whitey this is a link to information on the glove. I noticed the triple crown logo and I remembered the Armour franks promo. But the MM9 was in production long before the promo. I would think the box is a Hot item and would draw lots of competition in any number if auctions. Unless you find a very recent auction sale for that exact box I would be wary of any comps. As it seems to be a box that is on alot of collectors want lists.

Edit I found a picture of a MM9 box but it is different than yours. Not surprising since it was in production for so long. But yours is a very nice example. The mm9 is on page 6.

Going from memory as I do not have my books in front of me, the glove first came out in 1957 as the Triple Crown Model with a box marked as so, then by a red box then the 60's blue box

A red box model sold in January at auction for $650 in similar condition but with rips to box
