Shut out. Rose Co were strong, PC796s were strong, prices just seem as strong as ever on prewar. I would've really liked to pick up that T3 proof but I was blown out of the water. It's at $11.7k now and still active in extended bidding. EDIT: T3 Kling proof @ $15k now and still active.

ullmandds 01-27-2022 10:08 PM

I sold a few items in the fine arts auction earlier today...was hoping to use the funds for cards. Prices are cray cray! Shut out!!!! Those early cobb postcards...and the caramel ruths...Jeez!!!!

Casey2296 01-27-2022 10:10 PM

Super strong prices, 796s & Rose Pc's are no longer below the radar.

shagrotn77 01-27-2022 10:34 PM

I won the 1907 Geo. W. Hull Ed Walsh postcard.

bounce 01-27-2022 10:56 PM

no wins in the auction, but wins in the PC as i have a few 14 CJs stashed

may have to break a couple of them out, or trade down

whoever got the red hindu Wajo, you're welcome - i decided to let it go and didn't bump the bid - such a great card

DeanH3 01-27-2022 10:59 PM

I was watching and bidding but was shut out. No sign of slow down in prices.

Kidnapped18 01-27-2022 11:36 PM

1914 CJ prices are insane! Lowest winning bid w/BP was $600

The high end HOFers were off the charts...WaJo, Plank, Rickey, Wagner whew

Cobb, Matty and Joe Jax combined for over $1M w/BP

I was watching those as well! That 14 CJ Cobb especially shot up in the last few hours, ending at $516k!

I was shutout in the couple cards I was bidding on. Prices were strong.

Stampsfan 01-28-2022 12:56 AM

SRO... Shut Right Out.

I entered in what I thought were strong bids, and lots out on all.

MuncieNolePAZ 01-28-2022 05:21 AM

Shut out.

Happy to win this. Prices looked strong again.

brass_rat 01-28-2022 07:27 AM

Great looking Anson, Mac!

bounce 01-28-2022 07:31 AM

OBCMAC - i think that was a great buy. i was looking at it, too, I think nice looking "A"s of cards like that have some room to grow

Great pick up, congrats

ullmandds 01-28-2022 07:56 AM

After somewhat blindly bidding for a while...when I finally got around to reading descriptions...there were a bunch of more of what I'd call "restored" cards in this auction in A holders than I can remember ever seeing.

Donscards 01-28-2022 08:28 AM

Lost out on the Exhibit 1921 Babe Ruth SGC 3 went $16,300--also lost of the Goudey Ruths--shut out on my bids--I wanted the Babe Ruth cut but forgot to bid again last night--Very strong prices.

i was going hard after the 32 us caramel ruth...went bonkers imo???

Yoda 01-28-2022 08:34 AM

W502 George Sisler and 52 Topps Pee Wee Reese.

Rhotchkiss 01-28-2022 08:47 AM

Shut out. Prices on the things I wanted were beyond stupid/silly. Honestly, it Makes me consider hitting the consign button, but I would miss my cards; however, these prices are really starting to make me think I could get over missing them!

Bicem 01-28-2022 08:47 AM

$47k for an m101-3 Cobb?

$47k for a Wolverine Batting Cobb?

$31k for a Wagner/Cobb pc796?

That M101-3 Cobb was one of two main targets. As was the D303 Wagner that went for $72k. Nuts

Won the 1908/09 Joe Jackson Rookie. Extremely undervalued. Only North from here.

Shankweather 01-28-2022 09:54 AM

I freakin forgot to bid. I had my eye on that Goudey Hartnett and maybe the Cracker Jack Chance if I was feeling baller, and I completely forgot.

molenick 01-28-2022 10:00 AM

You might want to opt-in to text notifications. They will tell you when you have been outbid on a lot and they will also send a message letting you know that the initial bidding ends in 10 minutes (usually this is at 10:50 Eastern time).

Congrats Ed.

That is a great piece. I was watching that.

I wanted the 14 CJ Joe Jackson, but was outbid on December 20th. Just kidding. Man, that thing went for a quarter million!

I’m too lazy to look back… was there a 14CJ Walsh in the auction? If so what was the hammer?

<gulp>

These are crazy times, boys!

RCMcKenzie 01-28-2022 01:04 PM

Lots of nice cards from the Esch and Spillman collections. I didn't win anything. Had some bids on Rose PC Chance and the 53 Topps artwork. The only card I was the underbidder on was the SGC 8 52 Dropo. I saw 75 PSA 8's in their pop report, and figured I can always find a high-end 7.5 later on. Dropo was a great player when that card was released, which is why they gave him a cool looking horizontal card.

Great 1909 Sporting Life supplement Ed. I have seen a couple of the 1910 Athletic supplements with Jackson, but just one other 1909. Congrats.

I totallly agree. I want my cards, but consigning is getting closer.

I'm in the same boat. I submitted several what I thought were strong bids and came up empty. I'm planning to retire early in a couple years so I'm thinking about pumping the brakes on buying at these increasing levels. Starting to feel priced out. Love pre-war, but lately have been having more fun picking up lower value stuff from when I grew up (70's and 80's).

Wonder what mine is worth now?

:D

Had it since I was a kid, so it isn't going anywhere.

I feel much the same way about selling some of my cards, to fund another. It's a tricky situation. Our collections are miles apart, but I definitely understand where you're coming from.

I've always said I eventually want to hunker down, and get some nice pre-war cards, at least one issue of a Babe, Gehrig, Cobb, Matty, etc. Doesn't look like it's going to happen though.

Nice!

Here's my example, trimmed, no obvious creases and a little o/c with smaller borders. I should start a Dropo thread over in the post-war forum.

I can't remember a "what did you guys win?" thread where only a few people won anything.

Yes sold my Wolverine Cobb’s to soon, not even close to that price. Lol

Not surprised by the T3 proof prices. I traded my T3 Proof to a collector of the proofs 5 years ago for a Tomlinson cabinet of HOF Hanlon. The cabinet sold for $11,000. In major auction house. Would not be surprised if it was the same guy running those prices up.

Good luck on your consignment, fantastic card.

Exhibitman 01-29-2022 04:52 PM

I just made a sizable consignment to LoTG. Time to start cashing in and refilling the coffers for a run at whatever comes my way.

Bridwell 01-29-2022 05:12 PM

Heritage

I was shut out also. I was happy to see some similar cards to mine selling for high amounts, but also disappointed I wasn't able to add anything new.

Congrats! I was bidding on that one. Only ended up with this T202 Cobb Jennings. One of my favorite cards ever. Love it with the Conlon image.

puckpaul 01-29-2022 06:56 PM

Who’s buying these cards if Ryan H is getting handily outbid? Agreed, might be time to sell to them. I wanted to add to my nascent E90-1 set, but bidding on all of the individual lots was so tiresome and once i was decidedly outbid on most of them, wasnt worth pecking away to just try to get a couple.

There is always another auction right around the corner….

I was thinking the same thing. It's not often you see so many shutouts for net54 members in a major auction. This auction seems to have a decent chance to be either the peak of the insanity, or the start of a whole new level of crazy. Where all of this money is coming from is something I constantly wonder about.

There are many out there who can easily outbid me. But Heritage was not a matter of not having the “firepower”. Rather, the prices got way way WAY beyond what I thought the things I wanted should sell for. I expect this is true with many on this board - they could have bought stuff if they wanted but decided the prices got well beyond what they felt comfortable paying. As the next post points out, much of this board seems to have been shut out. That is very noteworthy

molenick 01-29-2022 08:12 PM

I've been having a strange feeling lately and wonder if anyone else has as well. I'll look through a newly posted auction and, if there's nothing I want to bid on, I'll feel relieved. I don’t mean there are no cards I want. Who wouldn’t want a Plow's Candy Cobb or Wagner? (I bet that got your attention.)

I mean there are no cards I want that I could theoretically afford to win…but only if I bid more than I had mentally budgeted. So, I either spend way more than I planned to or I don’t win the card....either way I am not happy when the auction ends. Whereas if there's nothing I want, there's no disappointment.

And, yes, I also won nothing in the last Heritage auction despite putting in bids that were 25-30% more than I had planned to bid.

riggs336 01-29-2022 08:14 PM

There was a great selection of E90-1s. I got one but was WAY outbid on the rest.
