R,I,P, Meatloaf

Sorry to hear that...Bat Out of Hell was one of the best "parking" albums of all time

Always wanted to see him in concert and finally did about 6-7 years ago. He was in poor shape, sweating profusely and out of breath, and was having a hard time singing and making it through the show. I really wondered if he was going to finish the show. Definitely some great songs and carved out a unique niche for himself with Jim Steinman. Somehow I missed that Steinman passed too fairly recently.

I'm guessing that you saw him at MSG? Wife and kids and I were at a different show in Manhattan that night. On our way home I remember mentioning to my wife that Meatloaf was in concert that night and she said she loved the show that we went to, but that seeing Meatloaf would have been great. Married almost 30 years at the time and realized that I screwed up . . . yet again! |
No longer praying for the end of time.
Truly a sad day. You know you are old when the singers of one’s youth start dying off. |
I saw him at the Texas Opry House, a small-ish venue in Houston in the late 70s. Great show from what I recall, seems like a couple of lifetimes ago. RIP

I actually saw him perform at an outdoor concert at the now long gone Cloverleaf Speedway, in Valley View, Ohio back in June of 1973. He was apparently filling in and performed as lead singer with the Amboy Dukes, who were the opening act. They were followed by Billy Preston, and the headliner, Deep Purple. All for $5! I literally lived about 1 mile down the street from the speedway.
Was the first, and only, concert they ever had there. Deep Purple had a truck break down and got there late. So they ended up playing much later than expected. Residents threatened to sue, so they cancelled the next scheduled show that was supposed to headline Mott the Hoople. And they never scheduled another concert there. |

I saw Meat Loaf at a very small club at Virgnia Beach VA in 1979. Called the Cave. He took up most of the place himself by just being by the front door singing. :p

I loved 'Paradise by the Dashboard Lights'! How many new Rizzuto fans sprung from that masterpiece.
Reports say it was COVID. I had a hip-replacement surgery scheduled for yesterday, got cancelled on Wednesday due to the virus. No. I don't have it...I'm fully vaccinated including the booster. Get vaccinated people!! . . |

He came a LONG way from his debut collaboration Motown album in 1971.
