An odd fact on those alive when T-206's were released
There are currently only 60 people still alive in the United States today who were alive when T-206's were released (1910-11)
The oldest American was born in 1906 There are three left from 1907 Four from 1908 Nine from 1909 Nineteen from 1910 The rest from 1911 Not sure what any of that means, but it's odd to realize that there are people who were alive when they came out, though too you to know anything. |
I wonder if any of them collect T-206's? :D
|
But it will be many years before the last person who remembers seeing Babe Ruth play is gone!
|
The last member alive to sign the Declaration of Independence lived until 1832. There could theoretically have been someone who met one of them - and - met someone still alive in America today.
Our country’s history really doesn’t go back that far, does it? |
President John Tyler has a living grandson.
Not great-grandson....a grandson. |
I hope someday I can make the claim to be one of the last people alive when something happened or that I witnessed

My earliest TV memory is Queen Elizabeth's coronation in 1953. I get a kick out of seeing her being queen still.

I was actually alive when phones had long, twirling cords and hung on walls. Let that one sink in.

You'll tell your grandkids "I was alive when I actually got my PSA standard order back in the mail!" I for one am jealous! :) |

When Betty White passed, It was posted somewhere that the Yankees only ever won World Series in her lifetime.
One thing I love about our hobby is that it brings people of all ages together. I've had some great talks with gentlemen older than myself, about things we're collecting and what we are looking for. As a child, going to card shows, it was always nice to not be talked down to by some of the older collectors. I've spoken about this in a prior post, but George Moylan (spelling might not be correct on the last name) is one of those people. He took about twenty minutes to speak to me at the age of 12 about the differences between the 33 and 34 Goudey sets. |
My paternal grandfather was born in 1856. There were 31 states and Buchanan defeated Fillmore for the presidency. He'd turn 166 this year if he'd taken better care of himself.

How about this?
There are lots of living great-grandparents these days, what with people living somewhat longer. I'm 66; my maternal grandfather was born in 1888. So far, not so impressive. But HIS father was 71 when he was born. I guess it was common back in the "old country" for a widower to marry a much younger woman if he was a man of means. Which in this case probably meant he owned more than two goats.:D Do the math. My great-grandfather (about whom I know nothing whatsoever) was born in 1817. DURING THE NAPOLEANIC WARS!!! The President of the United States was James MADISON, one of the Founding Fathers (not that my great-grandfather ever heard of the United States!). Yikes! Alan |

The last Civil War pension payment was made in 2020 to a disabled woman born in 1930. Her father was 83 at the time of her birth.
|
It would appear that President Tyler was a randy old rascal.
And where is Albert Einstein's brain? |
1776-2022 is 246 years. Betty White lived roughly 100 years.
Betty White was alive for 40.6% of America's existence. |
60 is an even fact
|
Babe Ruth hit 552 home runs AFTER Betty White was born.

Very slight correction to my post.
The President when my great-grandfather was born in 1817 was James MONROE, not James MADISON. Not a big difference. Just trying to be accurate. Alan |
