Red Hindu
Hi everyone,
First want to introduce myself. What do people say "long time lurker, first time poster"? I am one of these guys who was a kid in the 80s collecting cards and sort of grown up now. As a kid I loved the vintage stuff and 20 years ago sold everything I had post 1980. My favorite set was the t206. Anyway, I have always known what my good cards are and went about making an XL recently for insurance purposes. Most of my premium cards are in cases and I have pics of most of them. However, I recalled an old album of cards I kept at my folks house and wondered what I had put in there. I checked it out this weekend when I was at my parents' house and found some cool stuff. I guess I hadn't thought much about a poor Cy Young portrait because I paid less than 10 bucks for it (for example). What really caught my eye was a Hal Chase Throwing Dark Cap because it has a Hindu Red back. Mind you, it's in pretty bad shape. Probably not above a PSA 1 but no paper loss and very presentable. However, PSA has no graded examples of this card that I could find. This forum was the only place where I could find a decent discussion of these backs and it looks like it is confirmed to exist. SGC has one in their pop report at a 1.5. My question is: how do I value this card given that I cannot find a recorded sale of it? I get there are probably low-pop cards for lots of front/back combos but Hindu-Red seems like kind of a special case? Hope this wasn't "TLDR" as I wanted to introduce myself as well as ask my question. You all have some magnificent cards and know so much. This is the place I want to be! |
thats awesome...can't wait to see some of these cards! I used to own a chase dark cap throwing red hindu that another board member now owns...I believe its sgc graded.

So your card was the 1.5 SGC card I saw in their pop report? That's amazing. Looks like I came to the right place.

If you want to send some pics to my email I will be glad to try to help...leon@net54baseball.com....and welcome to the forum!

I did the same thing
Josh I likewise lurked for nearly a decade! Joined in just recently. Great forum, knowledgeable guys unquestionably. I often find the cards I watch at auction get snapped up by one of the members here. Folks are pretty cordial as well- no one has yelled at me yet anyway! Welcome….

Great card Josh. It’s worth a lot (despite the lesser condition). Congratulations

I agree with Sonny - great card, worth a lot. There are plenty of Chase collectors, Red Hindu Collectors, and just plain old T206 rare back collectors who would pay mighty for that in any condition. I expect you have received 5-10 emails/PMs already.
If you go to sell privately, PM me and I can turn you on to a number of folks who would be very interested - I am not one of them; great card but I don't really need the combo. I am also happy to give you my opinion on value, for whatever that's worth. Congrats on the great find Ryan |

This may give you a "ballpark figure".....I sold this red HINDU Pfeffer card 2 years ago for $800. http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...efferRHx50.jpg.http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...fferRHx50b.jpg TED Z T206 Reference . |
Great card, and welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. This is a really great forum! I wish had this resource in the 1980s when I was collecting these aggressively.
Some other cool combos I discovered today: Griffith Portrait Sovereign 150 Kling Portrait Sovereign 150 Myers Batting American Beauty These are in nicer shape than the Chase but not sure they're as sought after. In any case, I really need to dig down more on what I have. Thanks for having me and hopefully will be posting some more in the future. |
I have seen two others, I use to own this example. Take your time on valuing it, if you need some help you can reach out (I am not interested in buying it).
