Hello all. I will be set up at the show looking to buy , sell and trade vintage (1900-1980) "better sports cards". I am looking to pick up cards of Mantle, Ruth, Cobb, Gehrig, Clemente, Mays, Wagner, etc. I have much of the same for sale. I will also be accepting select private consignments - come talk to me if you are not familiar - puts more $$ in your pocket on cards/sets valued over $1K. Cards pictured are but a small sample. If nothing else, stop by and introduce yourself or say hello if we have met before. See you tomorrow!
Show address is 670 White Plains Road, Tarrytown |
Wonder if GM will be there ?
He was at The Last Valley Forge ! Can we get a Card Doctors National ? |
Will look for you tomorrow!

Be interested in any reports. Seems like a lot of things in the NYC area have slowed down a fair amount in the last 2-3 weeks. Very cold and every other person you know seemingly has a really bad cold and/or the Omnicron variant. Lots of people seem to be lying low right now waiting for the latest wave to blow over.
|
I heard it was extremely crowded with people who where spending like the money was burning a hole in their pockets.

Hope you did well Howard, and thanks for the fantastic '53 Topps you sent me last month!

I went yesterday. A few high-level thoughts. The Westchester County Center is far better for a show given its high ceiling and all tables being in one giant space. This show was fairly packed and tables were in a number of rooms. Aisles often left little room for movement. Some people upon entering the first room were unaware (myself and others based on a overheard conversation) there was a large main area and some tables in hallways. And though masks were said to be mandatory a few collectors and at least one dealer on the main room didn’t bother to wear one. I think upon paying to enter, attendees should have been told there was more than one room. While I am confident the vast majority figured that out, I suspect some left after seeing just the first room.
I found that most graded cards were priced at or above what you’d see on eBay. I appreciate though that sellers have to cover the table fee/transportation etc. and make a profit. So for that reason I found the best deals could be had by rummaging through $3 card boxes of ungraded vintage cards and their ilk though I bought some vintage mid-grade cards at a fair price. |
I went today. As mentioned above, the Westchester County Center is definitely a better venue for a show. The rooms here were very crowded which made discussion and browsing less pleasant.
I had a few observations: - Many of the dealers I've seen at the Westchester show for years were not there. - There was a decent amount of vintage and some high-end modern. The high-end modern was largely football and basketball. Very little baseball - I noticed that JSA had no lines and basically no one around. I asked them about the show and they said the day before (with Yankee signers) was insane, so overall was solid) even if today was very slow - There was a breaker doing breaks for kids. Not sure if you had to buy in or if it was free, but he had a very large audience - Not a ton in the way of memorabilia of any kind. A couple of guys had signed baseballs, and a couple of programs etc. but very weak from that perspective. - PSA was not there. I had hoped to submit tickets for grading but hadn't looked at the ad close enough I guess. - Far fewer auction houses seemed to be there than usual I ended up only buying supplies and was in and out in probably 30 minutes or so. Always fun to get out to a show, but definitely a letdown compared to the standard WP show. |
Show report from the dealer side
Hi all,
Back from the show. As mentioned - the layout was disjointed - 2 large conference rooms and lots of surrounding hallways. I was 1 of 2 tables in a hallway between the 2 conference rooms - I actually liked the location - PLENTY of space for my customers and potential customers to shop, look and have conversation. Great to see a bunch of Net 54 guys! I sold a bunch of vintage commons to set builders, cleared out a "bargain box" to 1 collector, sold some type 1 photos, M116's, T205's and a nice PSA 8 1971 Ryan. From speaking to other dealers, the show was mixed - guys with modern stuff seemed to do really well, vintage a bit less so. I bought a small collection of 1950's graded Dodger cards that will be listed shortly on the BST and a nice Michael Jordan 1st sports illustrated (which will be off to get graded this week). All in all not as strong a show as some of the larger East Coast regionals I do, but a solid show I will be returning to. A bunch of announcements about masks which the majority adhered to, but definitely saw some not following policy - no policing that I saw. Howard |
Thanks everyone for the recap
