Vintage set pricing

Nevermind the spreadsheet for T206 set pricing, be nice to know what VG vintage sets should go for. C,D,E,T sets, etc. Ballpark figures please. I'll make a spreadsheet if enough set pricings are posted,

VG E94 between 75-100k depending on color combo.

Kraken estimate

e90-1 Kraken in poor $40K obviously higher for better grades .

Casey2296 01-09-2022 06:17 PM

14CJ VG my guess would be 250k.
vG E98 is probably in the 75K range.

I like this project. Thanks for putting it together. Very interested if anyone has thoughts on what an E93 psa 3ish set would sell for - thanks Jim

T201? Should be one of the lowest price sets for T-Cards. I think T200 and T222 are also reasonable.

I can remember a mid grade T201 set would go for about a little under $2K a few years back.

This should be interesting to see this thread fill out.

I used to recommend E93 as a simple cheap set for those new to prewar. Not sure I would do that anymore. My E93 set is poor-good, I have it estimated at around $10k. So I would figure a true VG set is probably $15-18k.

The T222 set would not be reasonable in VG. VG is pretty high grade for the set and it is actually an extremely difficult set to complete even in poor, take what you can find, condition. The first 20-25 cards are quite easy, cheap, and can be found in VG without too much difficulty, but then you'll hit the shortprints (Henry, Lelivelt, Schulte, Leibold, etc) and lets not forget Johnson (also a shortprint) and Alexander.

Seems right to me, maybe slightly on the conservative side but all depends on the cards, especially the big guns. Some of the pops are oddly tough. Really appreciate your thoughts.

I think a G-VG T200 set would probably be around 10K if I remember the prices that they went for in Scott's recent auction which had 13 of the 16.

I know what my VG (and extremely well-centered) Diamond Stars set cost me to assemble. I don't have any idea what I could actually sell it for.

I also just kicked off a T201 set that I'm aiming to complete in the GD range, so this thread is relevant to my interests. It's definitely not happening for $2k.

jayshum 01-09-2022 07:24 PM

The T3 set in VG would probably be around $50-60K. There's a set in the current Leland's auction that is a mix of PR to VG-EX so that will give a good idea. On the listing, there's an estimate of $150-200K which seems rather high to me.

I'm rather interested in how much a Poor/Good E95 or E96 set would go for.

It is interesting to see the different estimates by collectors. One collector figures $75K for a VG E98 set and another estimates $15-18K for a VG E93. Aren’t these sets comparable in value?

I mentioned the 15-18k seemed conservative to me but I’m no expert. I’d put it closer to 30k. Obviously would greatly depend on having two people wanting the set in the same auction. To me the sets are mainly different when it comes to super high grade - a little more available in e98 I think, mainly due to the black swamp.

ullmandds 01-10-2022 10:36 AM

estimate on e94 seems a bit high, imo?

Nearly finished with collecting the T3 set over the last 9 months, so I'll add my 2 c to Jay's observation.

First of all, grades on T3's are all over the map, much more so than any set I've collected previously. The TPGs are all wildly inconsistent on the set IMHO, in terms of condition correlating to grade. But I think I know what Jay is shooting for, condition that for most cards would be considered VG, incl. no creases, very minimal staining and wrinkles, decent corners and edges, overall good eye appeal. I would put this 'VG' set a little higher, in the $65k - $75k range. Getting the Cobb alone in VG condition will be over $10k.

Since Jay brought it up, many of the cards in the Leland's set are not in very good condition, so I'd agree that their $150k estimate is wildly optimistic.

Chad, I don't know about you, but if it gets anywhere near that price, I would be very willing to offer my set to the underbidder for one bid below the winning bid. :)

My guess is the underbidder disappears when the auction ends! I might be worth throwing your set on Ebay after, but unlikely some individual is going to pay north of 75k

Likley all of these 25 "mint" lots will be bought by fractional buyers. I believe there was some ad saying it was "sponsored " by the Collectable app, but can no longer find that specific advertising.

I would think that the B18 set would also be another affordable set. Ne1 know what this would go far nowadays in VG?

I may be a little high for a true VG-3 set Pete, I forget what grade your SGC set was when you built it but I'm thinking 3 minimum grade and 4 maximum grade.

Cobb & Wagner will cost from 12-15K each. If its a rare color or has good eye appeal they may go higher than that.
Lajoie, if you can find one will be $7500-10K
Speaker, another tough card will be close to 5K
Young will run about 6K-$7500
Crawford in that high of a grade will fetch another 5K
24 cards left at $500-$1500 each.
Again, a lot of the cost will depend on color combo and eye appeal but you're not building a high grade set today without hitting the auction houses so when you add the 20% vig and sales tax it can reach some big numbers.

And every thread needs a card or two.

Set Pricing

Curious if anyone has any thoughts on the set value ( and possibility of completing) E121 (series 80 or 120) and Weil Baking .
Thanks
Dan
