Baseball (collector) HOF

Let's face it, most of us aren't baseball HOF material. That said, some members likely have cards / memorabilia worthy of being displayed there. Would it be cool as collectors / people involved with the hobby to have a Baseball Card & Memorabilia Collector HOF? If so, how could it work...nomination / criteria / approval wise? Maybe this is a "pie in the sky" idea...just think so many people have given so much to this hobby that we love over the years. Would be cool to find a way to recognize the pioneers / overachievers.

I nominate Jefferson Burdick. I couldn't imagine a Baseball Card Collector HOF in which he was not included.

We've done this but I don't know how to find it. Perhaps multiple times.

The problem is beyond a few pioneers it degenerates into a list of the guys with the most expensive collections.

I'd love to see the old threads on this if someone has the time to dig them up.

I know I have seen a couple different recent year posts on the subject, but couldn't track them down. Here is a post that I did find from almost 20 years ago (yikes!) that is worth checking out.

agreed

Plus sadly not enough people know of the pioneers or their true contributions.
Unless on this or another thread that information on them and others get shared.

Here is another link that describes the early 1970's idea of Hall of Fame hobbyists, with great writeups in the articles about early hobby pioneers.

Thank you for sharing. I guess for it to actually work, the hobby would need to identify a body of actual decision makers which would need to have legit sideboards / criteria for considering nomination. Would be cool to see this happen. To Jeff's point, I would hope that the sideboards would include much more than who just has the money to buy great stuff, but rather who has made significant / meaningful contributions to the hobby over time.

Those are very interesting and informative

Good to learn about the pioneers

Some would say it degenerates into a list of degenerates.

(sorry, couldn't resist)
