Vintage Bat Cleaning

Does any one offer a bat cleaning service in Illinois or Southern Wisconsin?

Would prefer to avoid having to mail it there and back to some where further.

I can probably help you out if you decide you want to ship
. Bill Rayburn is in Kentucky but that’s the closest person I know .

Not to disparage the bat cleaners, but this is probably not something I would pay for. Restoration, yes. Cleaning, no. I would just dive into the internet for advice.

Thanks Matt

I'm still in the process of buying the bat, so need to see if that goes through.

I should have said it may need some restoration as well.

If it was a just a $50-$100 bat then I'd agree, but I'm in talks with the person and it's in the 2K neighborhood, c.1900 bat.

Good luck with it

Hopefully it works out and hopefully we see photos of the bat

Bill Rayburn all day every day and twice on Sundays. He does amazing work!

Does cleaning a bat impact the value? What about restoration?

Bat cleaning and restoration is an accepted practice. Although many collectors actually enjoy a bit of dirt and grime on the game used bats.

I can see repairing a game used bat that's badly damaged but I wouldn't fix most cracks OR remove any dirt or staining that was likely caused by handling by the team and game use.
