November Pick Ups
1 Attachment(s)
After years of searching these 1971-72 Team Issued postcards complete set arrived today. This issue is pretty scarce and tends to be very condition sensitive due to the paper stock. Over all these are in very good shape. Thankfully the Clemente, Stargell and Maz were in the nicest condition.

I've posted a few of these 1970's hand painted visiting player locker nameplates from Milwaukee's County Stadium & a member here helped me get the Frank White one signed:

Cool pickup this month 2001 trot nixon game used away jersey with al 100th anniversary patch, and 911 flag on neckline... coolest part about this jersey is that it may have been on Trot's back when he caught Cal Ripken's final batted ball.

Mike Cantwell
1 Attachment(s)
Really scarce Thompson Photo of Mike Cantwell c. 1919 with Philadelphia. But he played 1 game in 1916 for the NY Yankees when he was 20 yrs old. Never thought I would check this box on my goal to get a card, autograph or original photo of everyone who has played for Yankees

Under my most liberal definition, I am at around 97%. Eg a player may only appear on an early team photo in a Spaulding or Reach guide and I have it in hand. This year has been tough with NYY starting I think 24 new guys in 2021.
A few relatively recent I cannot even find any photo in a NYY uni, eg Greg Harris, Billy Brewer, Rick Honeycutt etc. But the hunt is the thing! |
Very impressive, Buzz! The hunt is the thing.

Kansas City Blues Fan Club Newsletter Team Photo w/Mantle
2 Attachment(s)
Found this Kansas City Blues Fan Club newsletter from 1951 with the team photo that includes Mickey Mantle. Although there is no date on the newsletter, it appears it was issued in mid to late July which would correspond to the time Mantle was back with the Blues. He returned to the Yankees around Aug 20. I have seen this photo on Blues’ programs from that time period, but I have never seen any copy of a Blues newsletter, let alone, one with Mantle in the team photo.

Haven't posted in a bit as life has been crazy the past several months, but I did manage to convince the wife to allow me to buy my own birthday present. It arrived today all the way from Yokohama Japan.
1934 trip of all stars to Japan. Lou front and center. Some guy in the back named Ruth as well. I can also see Foxx, Gehringer, Simmons, and maybe Cochrane. Unfortunately, the shot was from above and most of the players are looking down. LMK if anyone can ID anyone else. Size is approx 9x12 https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...622c26f2_o.jpg |

Not a huge ticket guy, but was happy to get this one from 1923 at a reasonable price. One of Lou's first games with the Yankees, but didn't play.

Any World Series lineup cards are difficult to find. Being able to get the lineup card from every game of a World Series is hard to fathom.
From 1999, right in the middle of the Yankees dynasty. |

Bob, great graphics on the letterhead. Do you know the date and does the letter reference anything about baseball? Have seen one of them before.

Letter
2 Attachment(s)
Tom, it is from 1862 and I don't believe there is any baseball content in the letter aside from just the graphics. The graphics on the letter is very similar to the Ives print I believe. I will be selling these in all likelihood. I picked up these as well, six 19th century baseball club reception programs. A collection of six programs dating from 1867, 1869, 1893, 1891, 1896, and 1900 and the Catalog:

I've been able to acquire lineup cards from close to 20 different World Series, but have never remotely come close to acquiring the lineup cards from a complete series. And as a Yankees fan, the last Yankees dynasty is a big deal, so very excited to acquire these. |
LMK if anyone can ID anyone else.
I think I see Ichiro’s grandmother on the left, in the middle, 3rd from the back.... |
