1947-66 Exhibits - Actual dating for Jackie Robinson card

Hello - I'm new to the exhibit cards but have been looking for a cheap early Jackie Robinson example and I'm seeing the 1947-66 Exhibit card.

I'm wondering if anyone knows more on if these were actually printed in '47 or what the story is.

Thanks!

Adam will know more, and others may too, but I thought the issue with these is that they didn't issue them only in one year, they kept issuing them over time.

I'm interested in this too. Thanks for asking. I've wanted to buy one but don't know enough about them.

This is my understanding as well. I'm unaware of a way to reliably pinpoint the year one was printed. Perhaps others here know of a way to narrow them down more though?

There were two Johnny Antonelli exhibits in the series. One was as a Boston Brave, with whom he played with between August 1948 and the 1950 season. The second was as a SF Giant, the team he played for between 1958 and 1960.

I assume that card was printed over many years. I found this article which gives advice on how to date exhibit cards. It might be helpful.

Based on the chart, my Jackie Robinson was printed (or first printed) in 1948

thanks

Jackie Robinson Exhibit card

Myself and other advanced Exhibit card collectors have been working on year by year checklists for the Exhibit cards.

As pertains to your question about the Jackie Robinson card he was issued every year from 1948 through 1956. Including the 1952 B&W tint and the 1953 Canadian Exhibit set in both purple and green tint and both 1955 Postcard back sets. The plain line and the A MUTOSCOPE CARD back.

And to give you a real headache he is also in the rarely seen Pittsburgh Post Gazette, and the Miami Fun Fair Exhibit sets as well.

The good news is he retired well before the extremely rare 1959 Dad's cookie set was issued in 1959 thus he is not in that set.

Another possible back is the Triple Nickle shown below as well as a, ready for this??, set issued in Puerto Rico called the Bomba Chiclet set.

And finally.... there is a good chance he also was issued in one or both of the M.J. Holloway& Co. Exhibit sets. I have never seen a Robinson with this back. Maybe someone here can post it. However looking at others in the checklist for the set it seems they were issued i 1947/1948

Sorry for all this info! Aren't you sorry you asked? :)

If you need to see the actual Jackie card in the purple Canadian or the the other Holloway back LMK
