1981 Coke Phillies Team set (10/11 signed)
2 Attachment(s)
Good afternoon,
Soon after moving to Philadelphia in 2003, I decided to try to get each card in the 1981 Coke set celebrating the 1980 World Champion Phillies signed. At first I tried to get each one in person but wound up sending in some cards for private signings to get extremely tough signers (Garry Maddox). Of course Tug McGraw died much too young soon after I started. My question to everyone is, should I try to find and purchase a Tug McGraw to complete the set or live with 10/11 as all that was possible? Even the cards I sent in for private signings, I still feel as if it is something I personally did. What are your thoughts? Thanks! Attachment 484918 Attachment 484919 |
I imagine McGraw signed quite a few of those, according to a Tim McGraw documentary I watched Tug McGraw was a very affable signer at games. Wasn’t Bake McBride a notoriously bad signer? Maybe he signs now for income.

I would try to find one signed. I don't think it would be too expensive.
I met him after a few games on his way to the players parking lot and he always signed what you had. Bob |
I would get an autograph to Complete your set. You did a great job getting the others might as well get one to “complete” the set.
Either way great journey and great accomplishment |
