Bulk Pitchers
 

With the increasing invasion of analytics and shifts, the bullpen game has gained acceptance. Ideally I suppose a team should have 11 pitchers for a perfect bull pen game, one for each inning and a couple to fill in for those that cannot complete an inning, but that’s not feasible. So the bullpen game requires a pitcher who can pitch more than one inning, perhaps even three or four, so we need new jargon. Enter the bulk pitcher. Bulk can be defined by innings pitched or the length of his belt. This thread needs cards, so show us your bulk pitchers.
Also add a comment about their worthiness for the Hall of Flab.

I nominate Bartolo Colon to get the ball rolling.

Framber Valdez went 8 strong the other day, so it can still be done.

Here is Young Cy, listed at 5' 10" and 170, he looks heftier in this one...

By today's standards (at 6'4" 215 lbs.) his size is rather pedestrian. Maybe even svelte. But the Boys of Summer were much smaller back then, and he makes it into this tread on name alone...

I remember Sid Fernandez being large and in charge, for the first 6 innings of a game anyway. Then he'd fall apart pretty quickly after that. I wonder if that had been different had he not carried around that spare tire.

Surprised no one mentioned Jumbo Brown.

Denton, or "Old Cy", was listed at 6'2" 210. I think it was similar to today when soccer fans speak of "Ronaldo". They could be talking about Cristiano or Luis Nazario de Lima.

He's nowhere close to the hulking obesities of the 21st Century, but as rail-thin kids and Cardinal fans in the 1960s,
we reviled Lolich as "that slimy tub of goo." Respect now, though -- twelve consecutive seasons 200+ innings,
including seven consecutive 240+ IP, including four consecutive 300+ IP, including :eek: 376 IP :eek: in '71...

That card of the Reuschel brothers is great. There's a trivia question in those brothers (let's leave out the "heaviest pair of pitching brothers as an answer).

Broxton - not only did he save a few games, but he always saved a bit of room for dessert.

Yes kids, there used to be professional athletes who looked like these guys.

Amazing....they look like the maintenance guy & I.T. guy.

I also think they have it wrong on the card, names are reversed because Rick was #48 and fairly decent, Paul not so much.

Joba Chamberlain. Baseball reference has him at 6'3" 245. I remember the Yankees had big issues with his weight early in his career.
