PSA Regrading Request?
 

This situation has happened to a friend of mine this week. Let me know if anyone has experienced this before.

My friend is a registry guy. Out of the blue he is contacted by PSA. They tell him they’ve determined that one of his PSA 10s is a duplicate certification number. Ask him to submit card for inspection. Come back and say card is authentic but flip isnt. PSA takes the card off the registry and offers to grade it. Now he’s afraid his 10 he paid decent money for is going to be a lower grade. He hasn’t reached out to the seller yet but bought in the last two years from one of the big sellers. He’s going to go ahead and let PSA regrade it and contact the seller. Doesn’t want to out seller until he has addressed the situation with them.

Has anyone gone through something like this? Or heard that this has become an issue with a well known seller? Any advice?

I'd love to know the backstory on this one ; nothing happens in a vacuum ; PSA never initiates a conversation , not that I'm aware of ; they're 'way too busy. .... so : a real card , a counterfeit label ?? and the case ??...most ''PSA 10"-graded cards are high end $$....like I said , there's gotta be a great backstory ....keep us posted , eh ?

Funny thing is if it's a PSA 10 graded several years back, there's a very near zero chance that it would grade as a 10 today even if it were an actual PSA 10 before, which it sounds like this one wasn't.

PSA does do this though. It's not uncommon (despite what you read online).

Will do. Wondering if this is not the canary in the coal mine about some new fraud scenario we are going to hear more about involving a major player. Or not. Time will tell. Why I was wondering if any board member has received a similar call from PSA.

I have seen/heard of this before especially if there are duplicate cert #s out there
Usually occurs when a collector tries to register a cert number that is already registered and both collectors are claiming ownership of same card/cert number
The collector who is trying to register calls PSA with a complaint about not being able to register cert and PSA in turn contacts the collector with the card already registered and asks both of them to send in card for verification/review

If PSA initiated the conversation, then they knew enough about the card to find it's owner even if the cert / flip was "invalid". To me this suggests any value loss would be something they need to pay our under the guarantee.

At least that's how I see it. I'm sure PSA would have myriad ways to see it differently in a way that would not benefit the owner of the card.
