Help with a flannel uniform

5 Attachment(s)
Picked this one up at a flea market this weekend. Seller picked it out of the bristol ct estate of harold "lefty" demars. Both the pants and jersey have the name "walters" seen in. There is also a small set 1 1953 tag sewn in both that looks newish bu definitely has older sewing... the names naranjo and daval have been written And crossed out on the waistband perhaps cholly naranjo and yoyo davalilo?

Any ideas what i may have? Did the minor league jerseys of the 50's have blank fronts? I appreciate your help in advance

Cool shirt! I would hold the shirt up to a black light to see if you can find any crest or lettering removed from the front.

Also, looks like the name in the pants/shirt is Stewart and not Walters or are my eyes just bad?

Looks like they (Demars and Naranjo) played for Jacksonville in 1961. They were unaffiliated. They used to be the Jacksonville Braves in 1960 so maybe they just took over the Braves on front?

Looks like it says Stewart and not Walters from what i can make out.
Bunny Stewart and bud Stewart were players in the 50s
The chain stitching would be who it was originally issued to. Odds are the front lettering was stripped off many years ago. But it would not have been blank

Stewart

Yes, it does say stewart. Not walters... senior moment!

A lot of History going on here

Davalillo, Naranjo and Stewart all played in the Washington Senators organization. The flannel fits the style as well save for the lack of a W. I would bet if you use a black light you can see the old W outline. Not sure where DeMars would fit in here as he never played for the Washington organization as far as I can tell (maybe a spring training invite one year?). Below you can find the link to an eBay pic of Davalillo to see the jersey style.

Thank you

Thank you all for your input and help.

I dont have access to a black light, but to me it doesnt appear that rhwre was a letter in place there are a few
Pieces of patch like cotton on the inside, perhaps to cover a hole or two

Hopefully you can learn more on it

Hopefully you can find a great way to display like in a special frame or I have seen some people use mannequin's for them

So if those players were all in the Senators organization then it had to be one of the Stewarts i listed above.
You should send it off to Bill Henderson. He does professional restoration and authentication on jerseys. He would be able to tell you if it had a number change and what it was before. As well as restore the W or Washington on the front of the jersey.

Bill does amazing work.

Check a camping store or really good hardware store for a blacklight. They sell UV flashlights for around $10.
They're super easy to find in the southwest, because campers use them to spot scorpions at night.

Bunky Stewart was with Washington in 1954 and was issued #32. It looks like you can see the "W" on the left chest area - the uniform seems to have an outline where it isn't faded.

Washington? Flannel

I dont have the bandwidth to get this restored and really dont plan to pay the fees to have it authenticated... if anyone is interested, i am open to offers.

Have a great weekend!
Dave
