That Ruth Crown type 1 went for a nice chunk of change $37k before BP.

Was surprised to see a type 4 Red Sox Ruth photo go for $8200, there's another one on eBay right now (although a little later) ending today that I bet will go for a few hundred.

Two George Burke Gehrig portraits 8x10 sold tonight. They both had secretarial signature on them*. One on RMY and the other on Memory Lane. The RMY was restored (removed Mrs Gehrig’s Lou sig) (not PSA authenticated), but is a Type 1 and the other at ML was left alone. Based on the description I think the RMY was in better shape. The ML was PSA authenticated.
RMY sold for $5,339 (w BP) ML sold for $3,674 w BP higher %) |
I was trying to avoid bidding but bid on 6 items. I won two items the Buck Weaver batting post from 1919 World Series and a Ray Dandridge photo (I bought a ticket from a game, so it I liked the pairing.

looking forwarding to seeing what everyone won.
I was hoping to jump in with a Ruth photo The Ruth Crown Photo Surprised me also. I was looking to potentially buy a Ruth photo and I was shocked to see the prices they were going for. Even the 1918 News Service Photo type 3 Team photo with ruth going for over $4K was more than I expected. We all know everything Ruth is going nuts with prices but I was not prepared for these on these types of photos. Guess I have to adjust to the new norm in photos and reconsider my numbers for them if I am going to take that plunge |
Ruth crown was shocking too, photos are wild west when it comes to prices. Abandon Comps All Ye Who Enter Here.

Won these 2 amazing photos for a very reasonable price.
I really like the action in the Astor building photo.Attachment 482505 Attachment 482506 |
Pretty incredible auction results. I'm always amazed at the huge variations in the photo market. The 1919 Buck Weaver sold for over $1k before BP while the 1917 Bennie Kauff sold for less than $50. I would have expected the Weaver to go for more but nothing like that.
There are a handful of Ruth photos and negatives I've been on the fence about selling or keeping. If these prices are indicative rather than just a blip, the decision just got a lot easier.... |
