The Collector Connection September Auction, Last Day Today 10/3

10 Attachment(s)
Before we get to the commercial :D I want to thank Net54 for the support they've shown me. When I first started running the auction in 2018 I knew where I wanted to get to and the time frame I thought I'd need to do it. We have surpassed that by leaps and bounds and I owe a bit of that to Net54 and the community here.

From Leon, to some guy who actually came up with the new name for the company in a contest, to those of you who have consigned or referred people and obviously the bidders. But also to a group with whom I enjoy sharing knowledge, opinions and a love of cards and collectibles.

Thanks

click the link at the top of this thread and at the bottom of every post I make. Thanks man!

Also, FWIW we have graded the vast majority of the cards in the auction that weren't part of a set. The SGC Brown is the only one in this thread we didn't grade, and then there's the bulk lots of graded 52's - 60's in baseball and football that were graded when they came in, but the powerhouse cards came in the door raw.

mrreality68 09-21-2021 05:21 PM

Great selection and diversity of cards

Good Luck with it

Aquarian Sports Cards 09-26-2021 07:08 AM

Hey guys 1 week left and we've got enough vintage sets to choke a horse with very few bids! Remember no reserves ever in our auctions!

1954 Topps - $1200
1959 Topps - $800
1961 Topps - $1000
1964 Topps - $1000
1965 Topps - $777
1966 Topps - $900
1967 Topps - $1700
1968 Topps - $800
1969 Topps - $300
1970 Topps - $475
1971 Topps - $100, $200
1972 Topps - $800, $200

and from there on up most sets are $100 and less!

If you have questions feel free to post them in the thread!

Fantastic vintage basketball !!! Were they all from the same collection ?

Aquarian Sports Cards 09-26-2021 11:11 AM

The Basketball is from 3 separate collections

pawpawdiv9 09-26-2021 11:40 AM

i keep bidding on the 52 mick, but it never says that i'm the high bidder.

Aquarian Sports Cards 09-26-2021 12:04 PM

LOL, must be a bug in the software, I'll look into it.

Eric72 09-26-2021 12:34 PM

+1 for Scott.

I’ve bought and consigned with him. Happy with the experience, from either side of the transactions.

311 Mantle

The 1.5 Mantle is outstanding for the technical grade.

This is it and there are some head-scratching bargains. First are the vintage basketball rookies. I know the market on these has cooled down but the Chamberlain, West and Alcindor rookies are at a small fraction of the price they sold for in the Spring.

Sets are doing OK but the 1961 Topps is lagging far behind. You can take the lead on the whole set for less than the price of the high number All-Star Cards!

Also the large autographed pieces, most of which are professionally framed, haven't even covered the cost of the framing yet! The Indians 1948 piece with World Series stub is insane it includes Tris Speaker's autograph for you Pre War sticklers! Also forgot to mention above the first issue of ESPN the Magazine with all four signatures including Kobe!

Ya, that grade is stupid. It's more like a 3.5

Great auction Scott, I was trying for those great HOF basketball cards but I am happy to end up with The Hammer rookie.

Well we had it pegged at a very nice 2.5, but the point remains it is a gorgeous card regardless of the number put on it, and we got paid a fairly gorgeous price.

Thanks everyone!

So you're the guy who kept bidding me up on the Wilt rookie? That auction went on forever. Someone kept waiting until the last minute and then they'd bid again. Over and over and over lol. Was that you?

I really wanted that one. I tried my best. But alas, I gave up on 2nd place. I still think the winner got a good deal on it though. I wonder how much higher they would hand gone. I valued it at around 55k.

Anyone here win the Mantle?

No, I stopped. I think it was at least 3 people bidding on that one at the end. I was winning Wilt for a while though. Did you win it? What a beautiful card.

Ya, there were 3 of us near the end. Because I got outbid at one point, and then I tried to place another bid afterward, but it was rejected because it said my bid wasn't high enough (meaning a third bidder had just placed a bid prior to me refreshing the page). I did win it in the end though. Excited for it to show up in the mail. I've been looking for a nice copy of this card for a long time. They don't come up often and the 8s and 9s go for more than I want to spend. This one looks pretty sharp in the photos. It looks like a very recently graded PSA 7, which is probably an 8 per their earlier standards. I hate that their standards have changed, but this time it benefitted me since I was able to get a really nice-looking card for the price of a 7. That Jerry West was a really sharp one too. That probably would have been a 9 if it were graded 5+ years ago.

Aquarian Sports Cards 10-05-2021 11:08 AM

Graded at the National, we were expecting an 8. The West was insane, I can't remember ever seeing one more nicely centered. We were expecting an 8.5.
