I have been wanting this book for a while now. Every time I see one on ebay, the price is a bit too high for me. Yesterday I finally found a great copy with a really nice dust jacket for a great price.

Woot!!

He was a great writer and a wonderful man. I learned to read spending part of every day as a kid pouring over his "This Morning" columns in the Washington Post (for whom he worked for 75 years!) I'm lucky enough to have a gem mint copy with a personal inscription from him. It is a tough book to find in decent condition--congratulations.

I grew up in Maryland and remember reading his articles in the early 70s. Yes, this book is a hard find and I am happy I found one. Congrats on your copy, that is awesome.

Go NATS!

povich's book

After I read this thread, I said to myself, "I've always wanted this book."

A first edition goes for about $400. UGH.

I found a copy on AbeBooks from a dealer in South Africa, the home of baseball. The dealer wanted $19 for the book and $40 for postage. I figured it was worth a shot. I'll know in about a month as that water takes a long time to cross.

That's worth a shot almost no matter what the condition is. As you probably know, dust jackets for these old books are worth much more than the books themselves. I hope you hit the jackpot with this one!

Nice copy. I remember the thrill of adding this one to my Putnum series collection many years ago. Glad to see there is still interest in these books.

That's a beauty! So hard to find with a really nice DJ.

There are a few repo DJs of this book floating around out there, I hope yours is an original.

Very nice copy Adam. Congrats.

I have Frank Howard Gentle Giant (Putnam) and Shelby Whitfield's "Kiss it Goodbye" books as well.

I long to hear that on the radio just one more time.

Yes, it is very much original. The repros are pretty easy to tell in hand. I have one repro that I bought for a copy of the Milwaukee Braves. Its the only one of my Putnum Series with a repro DJ.

Here are some pics showing a facsimile dust jacket and an original DJ side by side. The facsimile looks more clean or like new. There is no attempt to deceive here as the company that made the facsimile has the company name in the inner sleeve ( Facsimile Dust Jackets LLC.). The Braves book is signed by Spahn; Danny OConnell; Charlie Grimm; Johnny Logan; Lew Burdette and the Milwaukee author Russ Lynch so buying a facsimile DJ as opposed to buying another $100 plus book copy just for the DJ made more sense.
