Clemente Day

In honor of Clemente Day share your favorite Clemente items or memories. I worked the Clemente Museum Fundraising event last week and had an incredible time. The event was a huge success. It was rewarding to be a small part of it. Friday night the Nationals came to museum after hours and stayed until 3 AM. My daughters were there with me and had the time of their lives. Here they are at the event with Cervelli and Sanguillen. Watching Juan Soto swing a Clemente gamer and marvel at it size has to be one of my top Clemente memories.

My favorite team after the Expos has always been The Pirates , I remember as a young boy in the early 70's I used to beg my parents to bring me to the ballgame whenever the Pirates were in town to see Roberto Clemente a little later on in my mid to late teens, late 70' early 80's I use to check the Expos schedule and buy tickets to many Pirates games to see Willie "Pops" Stargell and Dave "The Cobra" Parker, and later on from the Mid 80's to early 90's it was to watch Barry Bonds , I don' have many Clemente items in my collection, but this photo taken in the summer of 1971 at Jarry Park with Clemente at bat and Pops on the on deck circle is one of my favorites

Wasn’t that a late 50s issue? I don’t think racism created the scarcity. He had not emerged as a star player at that point in his career. There was likely a low production run due to that? There really aren’t many Pirate player pin-backs from that time period in general that I’m aware of. There aren’t many Clemente pin backs outside of the one in question and these that I know of. Even some of these are scarce. If there are others I’d love to see them.

Clemente night

Great thread. Thanks everyone. A few years ago, my dad took me to a Roberto Clemente Night. We had some pretty good seats behind the Pirates dugout, and I especially remember him getting a hit and hurting his leg on a sliding catch.
