My friend's 1933 Delong Gehrig (GRADE IS IN)

My friend Kirk has (I believe) 16 of the 24 cards in the set. He got all of the cards from his Father. He has never had them graded but sent me the Gehrig which looks like it could come in at a 5 or 6 ?? No creases or bends. He has kept this card in a hard case. Hopefully it has not been damaged. I think he's going to bite the bullet and submit for grading.
Any suggestions (and opinion on grade) would be helpful....especially on removing from that hard case.

Card just came back as PSA 6. Nice grade and nice eye appeal.
Kirk is a very relieved that the hard plastic holder did not hurt the grade.

Beautiful Card. I think would grade a A bottom edge, hope I, wrong would obviously have to see in hand to be sure.

That would be too bad. Someone else mentioned a possible wrinkle on reverse.

That card, if not altered, is worth some serious money. YES, grade that sucker. PSA or SGC

Can't speculate much from poor scans - but DEFINITELY send for grading - SGC or PSA.

when they go to take it out of the holder to be very careful, since its not in a penny sleeve. Sometimes the card will stick to the holder and get damaged when taking it apart. Good luck and hope it grades well.

I saw this happen once at a show. When the dealer opened the holder and pulled it apart, the front of the card was stuck to the holder and the card was essentially sliced in two. A true nightmare. Not sure there's anything you can do it about it now, but I would consult an "expert" on this stuff.. no idea who that would be though. Good luck.

One trick is to put the card in the freezer overnight before trying to take it out of the holder. Then go slowly and turn each of the screws evenly. The freezer method has worked for me every time I've done it.

Yes first things first that card and any others in screwdown cases should be removed asap. Freezer is great idea just make sure it is cold and has low humidity ( no white ice on freezer surfaces)
Now some potential bad news if screwdown case has pressed down on any crease or corner too hard you will get the dreaded N9 from PSA or Altered stock.
I have had cards from a 33 Goudey Ruth to a 85 Mcgwire rookie come back with a N9 and every one was in a Hard screwdown case. My Dad and I used to put all our cards over $50 in a hard plastic case. We then used post it notes on backs to prevent scratching and so that we could display price. Spending extra time and money to protect our cards. Now only maybe 2% of the cards I kept in hard cases that I got graded came back N9 but every one hurt. My best wishes that all of yours are fine.

This right here, I also use this method for opening any vintage packs as well. I lost a Brett Hull rookie during its peak pulling the entire front off removing from a screw down, so I wish you the best!
