William Paterson
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...m_Paterson.jpg
William Paterson was a businessman and politician who lived in Canada a hundred years ago. He had a confectionery company in Brantford, Ontario, that produced a couple of popular hockey sets during the 1920s. The first hockey set that was put out by this company, the V145-1, is the most popular since it has the rookies of Howie Morenz, Frank Clancy, Aurčle Joliat and more. However, I was surprised to find out recently that a super-rare baseball set was also released by this company around the same time as the hockey cards. Known as the V89's, this set has some all-greats such as Ruth, Cobb and Hornsby. Here is the Ruth below: https://www.oldsportscards.com/wp-co...eball-Card.jpg Is there anyone here who owns these baseball cards? If so, then show them off here! |

I have a Hoyt which actually pictures Pennock somewhere, but I guess I didn't scan it. This is my other. Love this pose and would love to find more HOFers from this set.

Great, elusive set. In particular, there are so many poses not seen on other cards. I have owned the Cobb but never the Ruth.

Here is Mike McNally of NYAL in this series. Referred to as "Joe" his middle name. Also known as Minooka Mike - I like that better

Here's a thread from last year (pre-COVID!) with a dozen images, and I think three more in this thread. Can we get closer to a community full set?

It's funny, this card just popped in my head today. I haven't seen one offered since I bought this one years ago.

A bit of background info about this card:
This was part of a complete set auctioned by Legendary Auctions in 2012, at the time described as the finest complete set in existence, previously sold in a Mastro Auctions Winter 2004 sale. These were all PSA graded, many finest known, and can be identified by cert numbers beginning 3087- or 2077-. https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1630806334 |
I've always liked these cards. My lone example.
